Marine Canister Filter

Can I use a 2nd hand canister filter that was previously used in a marine setup, in my freshwater setup. Do I have to rinse it several times before connecting it to my freshwater tank?

just wash it and put in NEW filter media

Agreed, just give it a nice decent rinse several times & chuck in new media. Maybe let it stand for a day or two after the rinse and repeat the process again before you use it
