Hi fellow breeders :)

This is my dilemma I been rapping my brain around this but hopefully one of u can help me.
Here I go = ok so I have got crowntails and halfmoon betta males in my collection and wanna know if I breed say the crowntail male with a normal female(round tail female) that u pic up at a pet shop.. I get the idea that only 20% or even less of the fry will actually end up being full crowntails or might just have traces of it??....then if I were to breed a female from that generation back with the crowntail male again what's the odds of me actually getting proper crowntails from doing this. What's the best way to go about this because I know u can cross breed a bloodline to strengthen ur current bloodline then breed back into again.

Cause now a days you can get really nice males and the females that you get one cant really tell what bloodline It comes from.

Basic genetics buddy...
Here is a link to a very basic, but informative site about genetics.
http://library.thinkquest.org/20830/Textbook/Genetics.htm
Once you grasp the basics, its relatively easy to understand and put in place.

Just out of curiousity, do you know the reccessive tail/finnage type of the parents of the betta's you plan to breed?
This will also assist you with you breeding programme.

Awesome thanks for the help bud, well I got a spade tail male I know his finnage is not dominant... Maybe breeding him will result in some plakat type and veil tail off spring, but gotta find a hmpk female I guess ? Or what u think ?
Gonna check out that site now:)

what you see in front of you is the dominant genes pushing through over the reccessive genes....
so for eg you have a spade tail... you can see it therefore that would be a dominant gene of that alele, and a veil tail might be the reccessive,
now if you breed to a female that is of the same make up then do the "gene table"
eg spade tale = T veil tail = t
therefore Tt X Tt = TT, Tt, Tt, tt...
and there you have it, this eg is very very basic, read through that sight and you will get a better understanding.
