We should probably have a forum area just for online video's of other peoples tanks ..
Will we in ZA get to a point that we can host such an event ? Have this type of quality ? I always get the feeling as a hobbyist we are trying to make the smallest cutting grow and that we seldom have instant tank gratification ... maybe be that is it ... do what Zoom is doing - first grow propagation stock then start doing a planted tank?

What are they spraying on the plants and why? I mean, it is going to be filled with water just now?
Looks very very nice but i would get much more satisfation seeing it grow into what i have in mind. This is sort of a instant thing.

Think its water, just to prevent the plants from drying out?

Must be.

Good question. One that has to be asked from the forum sponsors.
Apparently there will be a pet expo in Jozy in the near future. Some of the Gauteng based members should check it out tell us how many aquarium displays there are.
I can bet you there won't be many,if any.
The aquarium,pet-fish and aquarium plant market is huge in Europe, millions and millions of Euros. Many if not all of those tank displays are sponsored by aquarium-hobby companies. The plants used, but for a few exceptions, will be supplied by Tropica. The quality is unquestionably the best in the world.
The cost to set up a tank like that, fully planted from the outset and using to end equipment, could run into thousands of Euros,no jokes.
For the Europeans and Asian aquascapers it is much easier to set up tanks like we see in the video. The equipment is readily available from just about any LFS,from good quality tanks, lighting(designed for aquariums,no need for DIY),Co2 systems of the shelf (no need for e-bay),the best complete substrates money can buy (ADA ,Oliver Knot,TMC,etc.)no need to do a PFP-chemicult and cap with what ever, these substrates you don't wash or cap ,just add and plant. And then the best liquid fertilizers also available of the shelf from any LFS.No need to order from Prof.Dirk and hope you get hold of him when your stock runs out.
The SA aquarium plants market is very small, with only a handful of people seriously pursuing that aspect of the hobby. And the industry knows this, the LFS will rather keep fish that sells quickly than keep plants and planted tank equipment that's a slow seller.
In my opinion the only way to help expand the hobby, specially the planted tank side,is to create a demand for products.Let LFS owners know what you want, show them pictures, even volunteer to set up a display tank in their shop and volunteer your time to do the maintenance on the tank.Let other people see what can be achieved.
Nicely put Rudi! I'm really gatvol of all the crappy stock especially plants that our LFS's stock. Only thing worth going there for is fish food and the occasional fish.

Looking at that video, gave me this warm fuzzy feeling inside me. I feel i want to take my tank, give away my cupboard, couch and desk for more tank space. Is this normal, Doctor?
Rudi. Im with you on the concept but in order to create a market on the scale you thinking of is to huge, i can't see that happening for the next 10 years. Unfortunate but true.
The thing is people want what they see. So if you do lIke @Rudi (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/member.php?u=304) said and put up a proper even on small scale planted tank in your LPS people would soon want to buy more and better plants and equipment. This giving the LPS an outlet for these things.
Vis,
Exactly bro. Here in Cape Town there is only one shop, that I know of,that keeps a decent planted display tank, and it looks great.Forum members that visit Panorama will know what I'm talking about.
The shop has a decent plant selection, most of the time, and their additive selection is good as well, although it is mostly Seachem.
All this shows that they do tap into this particular piece of the market and they value their customers, giving good advice and at least trying to correctly identify the plants.
I always thought this particular display tank is a good idea and convinced and inspired me to do a full planted tank.

i know which one you speak of
What substrate do they use?
There's no indication of what substrate is used in the tanks showed, but it is most likely Oliver Knott.A complete substrate, much like ADA.Very popular in Germany, not available in S.A.
