My betta is showing some funny swelling in the stomach region. He is in a community tank and other fish are fine. Other than swelling he also seems to be fine and no loss of appetite or activity. Should I be worried.

Might be overfeeding or bloat. Just keep a eye on him and see if something else show.

try one boiled green pea, peeled, which helps their digestion, as it might be constipation, and 10% water changes daily for a week.

bettas are fussy at times , making peas not very appetising, you can also try live daphnia

no improvement or decline. Still swimming happily around. Maybe must get him a female

How often do you feed?
What are you feeding?
Are the scales raised?

Sounds like you overfeeding.

My daughter feeds fish before going to school and I feed in the evenings. Teaching her about fish but its a learning curve. So yes it could be overfeeding as he is still very active in the tank.

I hope i am wrong, but that fish has his days numbered.
He is over Fed - the more roughage diet the better .

Betta is carnivore inclined then veg. Pleco food is more veg based - go figure

I feed my betta twice a day. flake food and brine shrimp. Is it fine to feed them like that?

Nick its not so healthy but I think it helps that you feed brine shrimp too. You need to keep a eye on them to see how they handle it. Mine gets food once a day and sometimes I skip 2 days.
Some food like brine shrimp you might be able to feed twice a day but flakes and bettas do not really go along.

interesting little fact.. a betta's stommach is the size of his eye.. so that should be an indication of how much he can consume at one time.

over-feeding your betta will kill it.

That might be how big their stomac is but they eat way more :)

I feed flakes twice a day but in vry smal amounts. We talking 4-5 small flakes, or the tip of a metal nail file. And he fasts ova the weekend, id fast ur boy for maybe 2 days and then see how he looks.

thanks for the advice. Gonna have to move him from community tank as there is too much food. Plants and babies etc. Although he is still very active swelling has not gone down
