Most of you Pretorians missed the last time we went to the zoo....

So,since we seem to be the most active group on TASA,why dont we go visit the zoo's aquarium and have a fun time getting to know each other?

Xmas is over - new year - let's just do this...

Might be interesting and educational maybe bring my girlfriend and her son along what is the entrance fee?

I'm game for this and I know that the wife won't mind. It'll be fun and a good outing.
I would like to put some faces to the names that I talk to on the forum.
Does anybody know if the aquarium is still apart from the Zoo? The last time I went to the Zoo you had to use another entrance and pay seperately to enter both.

I see on the internet that the entrance fees for the zoo are as follow.

R45-00 for adults
R30-00 for children.

The hours are from 8:00 till 17:30.

I'm not sure when the site was updated the last time, but if anybody wants to make sure you can phone them on
(012) 328 3265.

Cool,2 so far!!!

Last time I went entrance for an adult was R49 - not sure about kids... (LOVE children, but can never seem to eat a whole one...lol). Las time troyfish and I went - had a blast! Aquarium 1st then split up after to expleore the zoo...

Wives,g/friends/domestic partners/the maid...all welcome(even kids -promise I wont try to eat them...lol) - Come on,lets make a fun day of this and get to meet each other...

any of our Southern Rat race brothers and sisters want to join us,more than welcome! that is if you have guts to venture to Blue Bull land...lol

PS:Bring your camera's - the dark environment + good tank lighting makes for great fish photies....

Come on you lot - SHiBBY,Slojo,Noodle,TroyFish....etc

The more, the merrier - so anybody have a date preference? Saturdays or Sundays?

Saturdays are best, sunday is my day of rest

tracyp
07-01-2011, 12:13
:bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile: hope someone gives the zoo fair warning: a rare opportunity for them to catch a breeding herd of that elusive species: The Variegated Fishkeeper!:p:p:p

Woe betide them if there's so much as a single ill-treated fish!!

Hope you all have a blast!

Lappies
07-01-2011, 12:26
I also prefer Saturdays. We'll probably be in Pta because we do roadrunning on Saturdays.
I do my waterchanges and cleaning on Sundays and it's the wife's day of rest.

So far the Poll says it will be the weekend of the 29th. Can we presume that it will be the date and make arrangement accordingly?

Pitty im in George. Why dont you guys organize so that the head aqua guy take the lot of you on the tour. he would be the only guy that can 'almost" answer the questions.

azurekoi
07-01-2011, 12:36
O.K - if there is no objections to the 29th - then we do it then... Will see if I can pull some strings and organise a behind the scenes tour...not promising anything, but owed a favour or two by the zoo...

SHiBBY

Azurekoi, that will be magical to have a behind the scenes tour and I bet very educational.

I have no problem with the 29th. I think it's going to be a blast. Pack a picnic basket and a couple of beers
and enjoy good conversation.

Sounds like a mighty fine day out.

If you squint and tilt your head sideways you can almost see an 'S' forming in the school... That's them starting to spell SHiBBY. Hey, if it's what THEY want, who am I to stop them right?

Lappies
07-01-2011, 13:29
Shibby, I don't know where you see the "S". I have 20/20 vision and I do have the ability to squint my eyes but it doesn't matter what side I tilt my dead to, I can't see that "S". You're dreaming mate and if you're not, it's called wishfull thinking.

Looks like we are gonna have to restrain SHiBBY at the Zoo....He's a big oke,so I'm gonna need some help...Any volunteers?...lol

SHiBBY ... Dude, naughty kids get fed to the Raggies in the main tank - You WILL be frisked for glasscutters, plastic bags and rubber bands before we go in...

SHiBBY

I'll volunteer to help Azurekoi. Don't want to be kicked out and be banned for life for the behaviour of a forum member.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Sorry SHiBBY, but I have connections at "Weskoppies" that will borrow me one of those cute little white jackets that will bring out the fire in your eyes.

SHiBBY
07-01-2011, 14:03
Hahahaha! Does Weskoppies have a ambulance? I would imagine in looks and sounds like a ice cream van...

On a serious note, I suppose that even if nattereri were not on the blacklist, I would not get myself one. The urban legend is somewhat enticing, but in the end you'll be stuck with a oscar with dentures and a real bad temper. I vote looks over attitude any day of the week... Hence my love for the fire eel, which encorporates both awesome looks and a one of a kind personality. As soon as my deacons have finished their business, their on their way out so I can get my tank ready for the eel! Whoohoo!

If any pictures, secret agents, or childish tittle-tattling reveals that a TASA member misbehaved, or stole fish from the aquarium, they will have to deal with the wrath of Bob-the-building-Zoom-Hitman. This means you will be cyber-slapped, called unpronounceable names, and banned for life from TASA.

This should mean we finish round lunchtime(that is if we can tear ourselves away from the tanks...lol),so how does a classic tjop en dop on the lawns sound(Rain allowing? - PS:@TroyFish (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/member.php?u=795) - how you know so far ahead? Psychic or something?)
Bring your picnic blankies, chow,a beer or two and we can have a lekker social afterwards...

I think I get it now.

@TroyFish (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/member.php?795-TroyFish) Yep you remember right.

Will bring some extra for whoever wants to risk tasting... Not to everyone's liking - More body and sweeter than commercial rat pee.

I'm experimenting with ginger flavored beer - REAL beer with a slight gingery aftertaste.

Got a batch maturing now, but I think overdid it just a teeny bit with the ginger.

Maybe, I'll bring some of that along as well, may as well get some independent opinions while I can.

TroyFish
24-01-2011, 16:44
Agreed! Hope theres no rain...

azurekoi must we bring stuff for a braai? If so what???

azurekoi
24-01-2011, 17:21
Yeah TroyFish - but been thinking... If it rains,we are gonna have hassles with the fire... + guess that by the time we finish with the fishies, all of the braai's will be taken...:(

So my suggestion is that we all bring a cold picnic lunch(dont forget a coupla "brewskies" to wet the throat),some Blankets, folding chairs etc...find a nice spot to chill and have a nice old fashioned picnic... Come on! When did eny of you last have a picnic? Will be great to socialise - men wont get stuck round the braai....lol!
For those that have a"deep seated" urge to scorch meat, maybe bring a portable braai along ....

TroyFish
24-01-2011, 19:50
Hmmm well im up for anything. Ill just crash on the grass....

azurekoi
24-01-2011, 20:56
TroyFish...O.k - your a mate(I've been to your house, you've been to mine...lol)... + dont seem like you can slap a gourmet sarmie together(way to skinny dude - do you EVER eat?...lol)... If you pick me up,I'll "pay" for it by making you a killer sarmie + one of the best crunchy salads you ever ate....lol!!!

As for crashing on the grass... That is only if it doesnt rain + I might do the same thing if Noodle 's homebrew kicks in(Hmmmnn...Ginger!!!)...lol

Disclaimer: I am not an alcoholic - I just have a liver that has built up callouses in defence...lol

Enough jokes guys.... Our tour leader,Dolf(after VERY many emails that he replied to while on holliday...) confirmed to me that there is no extra charge for taking us round and that 10 am start is fine,so R55 to get in for adults...not sure of kids, but google it...

How do you lot feel about contributing like R10 each per member(not your wife, husband, partner, kids - just R10...) to buy him a gift to say thanx? He is giving up his 1st Saturday off being back @ work taking us bunch of fish nuts round and the poor dude has NO IDEA how we are gonna pester him with questions/requests/demands... + having to rescue SHiBBY from the Piranha tank...lol - I will ask him what his "poison" is and let you lot know.... Would be a nice gesture from Pretoria Aquarium Fanatics side to prove that we are'nt just a bunch of free loading Yahoo's...

Guys/gals - this is building to be an AWESOME day out.... + special thanx to all of the Jozi folks making an EXTRA effort to join us... We all chat online so many hours of the day -gonna be REAL fun to put a face to the online nomicker and ask those face 2 face questions....

@azurekoi (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/member.php?1190-azurekoi) Looking forward to this like a six year old to Christmas!!

Wife and daughter will be joining us.

One question: With all the picnic baskets, blankets, chairs, portable braais, brewskies, etc, is there somewhere safe we can dump the stuff while we tour, or must the wife lug it around with her?

Rory

How much for kids, because my girlfriend and her boy might be coming along.

Reading that for the second time, it sounds a bit dodgy... How old exactly is your girlfriend?? :p

Sounds like you guys will have an awesome day, unfortunately I won't be able to make it but I'm sure you'll all do fine without me ;)

Well Noodle, think we leave the goodies in the car - if you keep your ticket,it allows for a re-entry...our poor loved ones put up with enough Cr@p from us and our fishkeeping obsession to not have to be burdened like a packmule....lol

Great day guys!

Would have liked to stick around and socialize, though.

Everyone just seemed to disappear afterward.

Tell the truth, I'm not quite sure what happened. Did everyone just up and go home? or did I wander off and get lost?

Most probably the latter. And me with a boot-full of beer!

Big thanx to Moolis for taking over the tour, we'd have been lost without you, and to Dolf for putting up with us wandering through his domain!

When's the next one?
