The suraminensis is a very nice cichlid..dont underestimate them..they might look dull when young..but they become stunning as they colour up

Theres no such thing as g. Surinamemnsis. its a name given to Geophagus that comes from an area. its 99% fish from the same batch as my Altifrons. Theres a HUGE number of colour morths of G. Altrifons and you will only know once you grow them up....

I feed mine OmegaOne Tropical flake, OmegaOne Colour flake, OmegaOne first flake, Prawns, blood worms and then they also take the OmegaOne Veggie rounds that i feed the plecos, they suck on them like a sweet till they get soft...

I currently have the four 10cm geos in my 240L planted community tank and busy selling of some of my large show fish so i can use another 240L Tank just for geos.Im hoping to sell my 35+cm shovel nose this weekend to have the tank available. Im concerned about the plant food tablets in the substrate poisening the geos as i saw one dig the fertiliser out and later two of them where dead.Could this be? Surely someone must be breeding varias geos? Why does it seem so difficult to get?

Sadly, the geophagus cichlids are not as popular with the market as they should be..ppl are not aware what beauties these fish are.so there are not many varieties on offer locally..my local lfs has had 5different types in..of which two types are available on a reasonably regular basis.they once brought in the jurupari type..but never got in again..those were nice..i had one male for about 3years

In the trade you get G. "Surninamensis" which can be ANY of the Altifrons - you wont know till you grow them up to a bigger size...

We also see the 'Geophagus' brasiliensis from time to time on the lists and then for the 1st time i saw the steindachneri 2 or so months ago....

As for the digging they do that.... Geophagus means "earth eater"...
