I wanna get a Red-tail catfish ( Phractocephalus hemioliopterus). It is gonna be in a Pond with 2 common plecos and a Channel cat.The pond will be 380 cm (L) x 260 cm (W) x 150 cm (H) and will be 14820L.I wanna know How can I heat it?I live near the coast and have kinda cold weather.I will be using a sump and pool fiters.

Mark that's sounds great but if I am not mistaken that's not big enough for the red tail that can get to 1 meter long but I stand under correction there...

You're right Lizid - Mark and I have idscussed this over PM, and I told him that he'd need a larger pond

the 6x2x2 rule (tank length: 6 times fish's adult length, breadth and height both twice the size of the fish) giving you the dimensions of 6 meters x 2 meters by 2 meters. This will give you room to house other fish as well.

Besides the size, you should be able to heat the pool via solar water heater.
You will however need some fancy control systems on it to prevent boiling your fish.
Have a look at http://www.sustainable.co.za/ for some solar equipment.
They have computerised controllers that could work wonders here if the temperatures can be set low enough for your needs.

And to keep the system efficient you'd most likely have to find a way to cover the pond in winter to keep the heat in but still allow the sun in as well.

How did you get 14820 litres? that pond is way to small with the measurements you posted

It's 14.8 cubic meters, so 14 800 liters is correct...
Would love to see an update on this project though.

380(cm)x260(cm)x150(cm)=14820000
14820000/1000=14 800 liters

and welcome to tasa! :)
