So here it is, still a work in progress. I'm picking up some more plants tomorrow so updates will follow shortly. Oh and i will be putting up a thread showing the making of the background.

Love the backgound sailing derrick. Eagerly await your thread
cool background and thats a nice betta too
Nice looking Halfmoon meneer :)
On the plants, the front-right plants look like Anubias Barteri var.nana. Don't plant them....they will rot and die. Anubias must be tied to a piece of wood or a rock in order to survive and grow. They are very tough plants and can survive in lots of different environments, but as soon as you stick the rhizome in the substrate, they start to die.
Nice little CO2 you got there....I recently put the same thing into one of my tanks.
Am I seeing mondo grass in the tank or is that pigmy?
Tetra's CO2 Optimizer. Costs R 145 for the diffuser + cannister. Refill cannister costs approx R 50. Very simple to use

Here is the background. http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?t=559
I was looking at that and the nuetrifin one which comes with the ladder.
Looks good - love that background.
This looks really nice. Going to try it.

You're welcome, I'll shout once I prune plants again....ppl must just come and collect
Cheers

Very cool, gives me ideas to upgrade my beta's baby plastic tank to a bigger better one and use it as a planting experiment.
what type of mesh of sorts lurking in your substrate? please advise ande explain
sailing_derrick
16-05-2009, 15:44
The mesh is holding spiky moss to pieces of slate. The moss will eventualy grow thru the mesh and for what will look like a lawn.
any updates on the tank. I woold like to see what the moss lawn looks like

Hi sailing_derrick,How do you get the cement to stick on the polystyrene?
Do you use pure cement or do you add any additives?
The back ground looks awesome ,,, if i have a 1.2 x 45 x 45 tank what size co2 would i need to get ....

I just put it back together to give breeding cockatoo dwarfs a try, no fancy plants just ones that grow fast and keep the water clean. At the moment the only fauna in there are 4 malaysian trumpet snails for the next few days, altho i used water from my 1.2m and filled the filter with the filter material from my 1.2m too, i still want to wait a few days before i move my apistos. As u can see i am having a little trouble getting the temp right i have turned the heater all the way down and still it is @ 27C, hopefully it will have fixed itself by the morning.
Anyways i have jabbered enough so here are some pictures.
Oh and bear in mind these were taken about an hour after i filled it (should clear up soon).

How well does that CO2 system work? How long does a refill normally last?
TIA

looking nice, i esp like the black sand
btw, the digi therm. would be better if you wired/stuck it on the left of the tank front panel, that way you dont get that diagonal piece of wire showing up from front view on pics
other than that, looking forward to seeing progress fish breeding wise:)

I never noticed any notable change when i had the tank set up before but i got the thing so i figured it cant hurt, its only gonna be in there till i get fish in there.

Thanx, i like the black sand too, looks cool and a dark substrate will make your fish more comfortable and some even say it makes their colours come out more too.
I usualy have it on the side of the tank where it is completely out of site, its just there so i can easily monitor the temp till it settles

Hey Sailing! What kind of apistos are they? Let me know when they are big enough to part with, and I'll take a few off your hands if you are parting with them? I can pop across from the other side of rosmead! Cheers! Big G!
