View Full Version : Tetratec Easycrystal 250/300
Hi, I was just wondering, how easy is it to find the replacement cartridges etc. for these filters in SA? Specifically Cape Town... If anyone knows would be great to find out thanks!

Hey Damian... Just aproach it from a "boer maak n plan" way.... Filtration is easy - good mechanical filtration letting clean water through to an area with ample, good bio media... have often looked at the way the big modern European " force" us to buy their expensive inserts.....Eish,with our Rand? - Use some ingeneuity - filter floss or nice open cell foam makes a good mechanical filter - just make sure ALL the water is forced through the foam... next, some good siporex or any other sintered glass bio media.... If you want to add some chemical filtration - stuff some Boyu activated charcoal in a stocking and stuff it in somewhere....
I might get lambasted by the rest of you for this - but has always worked for me.....
Damian - Found some at LFS - they have plenty of stock and priced well over a R130 - but it being in JHB probably not what you want to hear, does mean that somebody has a local supplier. I do agree with azurekoi - filter floss (I use batting - cheap by the meter from a material shop) and open cell sponges on all my tanks - some have ceramic rings but those I've collect with tank purchases.

I have never ever bought inserts, its just a rip-off. Always did the 'boer maak 'n plan' way.
