A single pump and filter system?

Hey guys.

I have 5 tanks at the moment and the electricity bill is rough, it's lights, pumps filters and so on.

I want to find out is there not a single pump and filtering system that i could use?

I don't have the world of cash so no supper R25 000 systems?

Any suggestions would help?

I have

4 x 2 foot 60 liter tanks next to each other two on top to at the bottom!

i have:
2 jack Dempsy
5 fire Mouths
1 Siamese fighter
1 community tank

I will go for a sump setup, you can either have the tanks drilled(expensive and risky) or you can make an overflow with pipes. It is a bit difficult to explain, but search the web and look at about.com. Experiment a lot with buckets before you do anything drastic.

I know I am going to be blasted for suggesting a sump because your fishes' water requirements differ - BUT I TAKE IT YOU USE TAP WATER AND DON'T ALTER THE INDIVIDUAL TANK. AND MOST OF YOUR FISH WAS BRED LOCALLY AND THEREFORE SOMEWHAT ADAPTED.

Go for the biggest dimension pipes you can for your overflow, do it properly- not so that your tanks will run dry. It is possible.
Consider a tower type of sump, with all your water going through a mechanical filter first(floss/sponge/filtersock) and then through our bio media.
Biggest risk is cross infection if you do get a bug and all depends on how technical minded you are.

Ditto RiodgerRabbit - Wingman you could use a 50L or 100L drum as your tower filter/sump..
OR
I would look at the BOYU airpumps, I reckon the ACQ003 would do your system well. Connect the pump to a 15mm pipe running to all tanks and back again, then tap off the 15mm pipe into the tanks. Put a Corner filter in your tanks and then hey presto - no sump needed. All you got to do then, is regular water changes with a siphon hose. I am currently doing it this way with about 30 tanks and works well.. Also no contamination between tanks this way..

Can you please help, I posted a post about some worms on my tank that I only noticed today what are they, 1 -5 mm white and move along the sides! thee is allot of them?
