Word Life peeps!
it's been a while!!!
So to give everyone an update of what has been happening here goes:
5ft bust at the beginning of the year water pouring onto my lounge suite at 5am), gave all discus, rummies, cardinals to a mate, emptied tank in about 0,5 seconds.
Bought property, moved and decided to fix my 10yr old tank
Got pesuaded to buy a new tank, dimensions are: 1,5 as usual (to fit Cabinet) 450mm and (this is the exciting part for me) 750mm high
Sleepless nights deciding what to keep: MARINE, discus, mixed tropical, peacocks, mbuna, tropheus........... nah! been there, so the plan is Frontosa! hurrah!
so here is the final product so far (pics to follow) of Cell phone, sorry!

spock rider.....
rock spider.....
hmmmm
lol your avatar says it all ;)
stunning looking tank the rocks are awesome, fish have a huge playground there. may i ask what substrate you are using.
If I may ask, was the busted 5ft custom built? Also were there rocks against the sides of the tank and that kind of thing? I've never had a catastrophic structural failure in a tank, I'm just wondering what prompted that to happen?
Wow, wow and wow - that is stunning and exactly what I have been looking for. In your 1.5m tank - what was the weight on the lava rock that you used. I see your comment 41kg which seems really a lot. Is that correct?
Cheers, Helene
i know the weight of the rock seems large but it is also distributed along a large area, you can also place eggcrate or some other material under your rock to help spread the load, my marine tank prob has about a 100 kgs of rock in it no problems.
sweet, I want one aswell. Or going to copy your tank. Substrate?
What lights and filters are you using??? and what plants ???

When I say busted, I mean water leaking out, from where I have no idea ( I suspect from the chipped corner in the side filter compartment) but doubt that too, as all the water remained in it. I think I remember checking at the time of the incident if one of the powerheads was not squirting out the tank. but now doubting myself. no visible damage. Even the cabinet was dry everywhere. eish too confused!
When the dude suggested I buy a newbie I was sold on two points, 1. not having to remove the 3d background again(meaning knocking out the struts) 2. going from a viewing area of 35cm to 75cm.

Hey rookie, in my experience 41 kg is very light, had a piece of slate of about 1,2 m long and about 5cm thick plus copious pelindaba rocks in my previous setup about 9 yrs ago.
it just has to be stable and secure!

What lights and filters are you using??? and what plants ???
haai Rickus
lights: 4 X 80 W T5 (5 ft)had 2 blue and 2 white at time of photo, now 2 red and 1 white and 1 blue
filtration: some random powerhead 2000 litres/hour, bioballs and sponge only.
Plants have to start again (too much light) at the time of "kiekie" various anubias (barteiri, nana)
Or am I wasting my time with Fronts??? (only want African)
Thanx Spock Rider,
We are want a malawi tank. still deciding, what to use: lights, FILTERS, substrate, ricks and plants.
At this moment I only have 2 tanks. thanx for your answers.
Your tank looks great !!!
