Wow, they are awesome! I cant seem to grow many of my plants... even with the Prof's ferts, the fish seem to separate the plant and the roots, so next thing I have 2 pieces floating around that I have to throw out...going to have to research this lot..lol

Hey, I need to learn the science behind planted aquariums before I even start mine. The last thing I want is R500 worth of plants going brown in a month.
Maybe someone can give us a rundown on the equipment, test kits and Watts/Liter for lighting required. How to dose CO2 and stuff like that.
Are the parameters plant dependent or a standard balance?
Oh, I've been through the plant threads and nothing makes sense.

Wow, been browsing some of the entrants and found a Richard E Mason (from Cape Town) as an entrant in the Biotope section - 34ol planted wit some P. leopoldi - STUNNING fish....He got a bit dissed for his plant choices, but what a nice tank....Good chance he is on here too as he mentions that he uses the professor's ferts....You GO dude!!!
Very nice website. Thanks for the link Clinton W.
Does water quality and lighting play an important role with plants as well?
Viv.
Really nice looking tanks.

Plants are harder to take care of than fish . . . they need everything you mentioned and more . . .

Richard Mason is on this forum and APSA, known as Rattail. Yes his natural looking tanks are a sight for sore eyes and must be seen in real life, to appreciate it!
Richard is one of my best fish friends, and very knowledgeable.

Insane tanks.
Hi all.
I have plants that are growing nicely with only 60 watts of light no CO2, Flourite substrate and using Flourish Excel and Complete.
Just chose the right starter plants that will suite your conditions.
So go on try it its very rewarding I promise you and like hein24 said its almost more addictive than fish keeping.
Cheers

hi, slightly OT here, but, do we know that mr mason actually wanted his real name divulged to the world out there? i know we all have our own opinions but i for one would not appreciate it if it my name was given out to the public in general, unless i specifically put it out there myself. privacy and all that.
no offence oom gert, just expressing my opinion ;)
