Hi Guys,

Below is a pic of my 10gal tank, and the globe that comes with the tank. It's Boyu tank, and takes what is called a PL9 globe. It came with an 11w globe.

The original globe produces a white light, and the one half of the globe gives off a blue colour.

I have been doing some reading on the required lighting for my tank as I have recently put plants in, and the "brown algae" was starting to grow. From my reading I need to put in approximately 1.5w per gallon. My tank is roughly 9 galons when you take the substrate and rocks into consideration, so the 11w is about right.

My question is this...
I decided to get another globe from a hardware store today, because I wasn't sure if the blue side of the supplied globe is giving off the correct wattage etc. The original globe gave off a very white light, (like a traditional flourecent tube), and the new tube is giving off a more yellow light. Like an old fashioned incandescent globe.

Does this make any difference? Should I be aiming for the whiter light?

Light looks good - if you need another PL9 tube (White) I have two to give away
