The list below is some of the things you can feed your Oscar, I have personally tried about 90% of these and my Oscar loves them it might be a hit and miss depending on your fish temperament. It also makes for a great variety of a diet stopping them from being picky when they get older, and makes for extremely healthy fish. Just remember everything in moderation and what is left un-eating needs to be cleaned up.

Meaty Foods:

Pellets
Shrimp
Krill (Not Freeze Dried it might cause swelling of the stomach)
Scallops
Clams
Squid
Crayfish
Crab and Lobster
Cod, Flounder and Haddock and about any other fish you can think of.
Bloodworms
Brine shrimp
Mysis shrimp

Insects & Worms:

Crickets
Meal Worms
Earthworms
Flying Ants
Snails

For the above just make sure that they weren't exposed to any nasty chemicals.

Veggies, Fruits:

Peas
Algae wafers (Those you usually buy for you bottom feeders)
Bell Peppers
Zucchini
Squashes
Carrot's
Garlic
Mango's
Orange's
Pear's
Bananas
Blueberries
Papaya's
Peach's
Grapes
Spinach
Peanuts
Pecan's

Giving your fish food that contains vitamin B and C's will help it improve its color and keep its immune system up. If anyone knows of anything else I can try let me know as I am keen to see what my Oscar does with it.

The trick with Oscar's when introducing new food is when they refuse it dont feed them for a day or two then try again. The same applies when they stop taking staple foods like pellets and such and only eat one specific food. Also you need to cook the carrot a bit to soften it up.

Pleasure, an Oscar is pretty much like a little kid. If he doesn't get what he wants he sulks and he only wants to eat the lekker stuff and refuses to touch the healthy foods. And since a growing Oscar thinks more about food than anything else starving him for a bit makes him think twice about being picky about the food he gets.

If it can fit into something in its mouth he will eat it, if you give them a wide variety of food when they grow up there will be less chance of it being picky when its full grown. Also more variety means a fast growing and healthy fish.
