Congratulations to all our previous winners. And a well done needs to be extended to all the faithful members who enter every month... and then get all excited about results.
This month will run until 30th September.
There is no theme to this month, but there are a few constraints to get your creative juices going:
We'd prefer not to see your tv reflection, window reflection, or even worse, the reflection of you holding the camera!
No full tank shots.
Try and get as LITTLE hardware (heaters/pumps/filters) into the shot as possible, unless you think you have the sexiest looking heater.
Then... we want a write up on the photo. The write up needs to give us a brief description of what you took a photo of... so don't take a photo of your pure breed Altum Angel, and then tell us about your mother-in-law... as much as you think she is an angel... it just don't work! Be creative. Name the fish. Tell us what he was thinking at the time of the photo? How long did it take to get the right pose? You guys all have amazing creative skills with setting up your tanks- now we just extending that creativity into a little bit of spunk and fun!
And lastly... if a member feels they are prepared to "sponsor" a plant, pump, heater, book, rock etc as a prize... then send me a PM. Please bare in mind that the logistics of sponsoring a fish might be difficult, and we would appreciate it if you could cover the postage and packaging as well.
OKEE DOKEE... we have a prize.
Prizes are going to remain annonymous throughout the competition. I want you to enter to be part of the group... not for the prize. The prize sender will post the stuff to the winner, and a tracking number will be sent to myself to foreward to the winner. This way the prizes are recieved annonymously as well. HOWEVER, should the prize sponsor wish to make him/herself known to the winner after the competition, he/she is more than welcome to do so.
So get snapping...
P.S. If you want to sponsor for future prizes, you can still PM myself...

Ok, here we go
This is one my of my apple snails in my 240l liter planted tank. A few weeks ago, I caught this guys in my canopy laying eggs! I know it is not that exciting but for me it was, anyway I let the eggs sit there for a day or two and then moved them to a small tank. To they slowly but surely started growing. Also I know this sounds weird, but the big one's name is "Alien" because when he has his feelers out he looks extra-terrestrial.
After they grew big enough ( to avoid them being eaten by my loaches ) they went back in the big tank with Father. Anyway I read the thread and then was on look out for a pic, and I though this would be nice. I took about 10 shots to get the correct photo. Anyway hope you oaks enjoyed it! I know it might not be a winner but I enjoyed it.
Regards
Peter
PS. Can a mod fix the tags please

Comet highway
These are my first comet goldfish I ever had. They always followed my hand when I moved it in front of the tank so I thought I would take a photo of them 'playing puppet'. I never actually got around to naming all of them but the one right at the back was Shubankie and second from the back was Peeler (It looks like his color is peeling off his tail).
I gave these fish to my cousin and Shubankie and Peeler still live :). I really wanted to capture the feel of movement and actual 'Schooling' of goldfish. Any goldfish will school. Just put food in the water and they do whatever you want .

Anyone who has tried to take a photo of a fish will tell you how frustrating it is to take a decent photo of the fish while it's busy darting around. Some people say you must feed them, thereby distracting them, others say just wait until they're calm. Neither worked for this fish.
However, one day while tirelessly chasing down this firemouth with my lens, he stopped. And looked at me. After spending days trying to get a decent photo of this fish, here he was, waiting. I was in such shock that he was still that I almost didn't take the photo. Needless to say, he darted off immediately after the shot.

here's a pic of an F1 Aulonocara Stuartgranti Ngara, which was returned to me after 3years...was bred from my firsy wild caught male..this specific one has a nice deep red colour which you cant really see on the pics...hoping to line breed it to develope the colour even more...sorry for the crappy pic...took forever just to get a decent pic of him
There I go to my tank thinking that Discus are slow(going to be a easy photo). Man was i wrong, they are really fast if they want to be. I took a few shots and before I knew it 4 hours had past!!
http://i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac217/I_R_Q89/IMG_0006.jpg
His name is lucky and is the only one left of the first 9 Discus i bought. Lucky has 8 friends now:bigsmile:
Sorry about the algae, I cleaned it a day before i took the photo, the stuff just keep growing as I clean.
Living where I do, I do not have access to breeding stocks, which is the main reason why I keep busy with the common stuff like livebearers and Convicts.... I drew up a list of (around) 6 species, which I would really like to get hold of.... just to breed "something else" and this list included Kribs.
Last week Thursday, I had to see the doctor in town... some 50km away, so to kill some time (because I arrived early)... I thought I'd just pop into the pet shop to look around.... (They only have about 8 tanks) and are usually only stocked with either guppies, Oscars, or Convicts.......
To my surprise,.... They had 8 aduld Kribs, which (of course) I did not hesitate to take all of them...... and at being discounted from R35ea to R20ea..... I think it was a (moerse) bargain too.
I set them up at home and already, I have 3 pairs showing signs of breeding behaviour... Now That's luck for you....
(& also... I'm not lying when I say... they are soooooo active that it took me 49 shots to get one suitable photo to enter here.

Hey guys
Posting this image on behalf of Oscar Freak who sadly STILL has no idea how to upload a pic.
Pic was taking by his celphone as his camera comes from ch*** (Cant say the ina part)
As you can see his Arowana is a little camera shy these days but this doesn't stop his Oscar to swim and show off his colour/s
Besides these 2 poses theres not much to see except the airline tubing...

Hi Guys & Gals
I purchased my 8cm redtail Giant Gourami Friday afternoon from a lfs in Boksburg. I had ordered the fish for my new 6ft tank that is being built but the fish arrived before the tank. so i have him housed in my father-in-laws 6ft wall tank. (father-in-law mentioned to me yesterday it seems that some off his fish is missing....i wonder why??)
I named my first giant Charlie as he will be the first member when my monster tank arrives......
Hi there This is my Apistogramma cacatuoides (Elvis, not sure why but it works)
The photo was taken on my iPhone 3G this morning during feeding, I think this has been the easiest photo I have ever taken, he acctually sat in the same place and turned so I could get the photos, unfortunitly he did not want to turn sideways so I could take a decent shot of his "main"
So Like I said this was during feeding time, I can only assume he was tired of me tring to coax him out to take the photos that he just thought he would give up... the current morning feed is not his favourite but it is what hes getting for now... as soon as the pellets hit the water he is ready for the stalk, I doubr they are Stalkers but the always looks like he is stalking his food...
Kind Regards Grant and Elvis

In memory of Harold, my beloved Boesmani Rainbow :) The most gorgeous fish I have ever had.
Lover of bloodworms and caviar, hip-hop, he could dance to Lady gaga numbers, and solve complex mathematical problems and display the answers on his irridescent scales (much like an LCD lol).
Champion swimmer, and I learned from him, what women mean when they say "sensitive guy."
Here's to Harold, hope you win!!! :))
Bump:
We have 9 entries???? Is that all??? Come on guys.
Competition closes on Thursday!!

Angels are always photographed from the side like most other fish ... BUT every night I feed mine they seem to look at me head on... so here is a shot of my FIRST angel ever, thinking where is my Bloodworm... Hmmm Tasty (I love the tail fin coming out behind)

Hi
With regards to my new Frontosa and Giant Redtail Gourami here is my short right up;
I named my Giant Gourami "Charlie" he cost me a fortune but was worth every cent. He is more rare to find then the common Albino Giant Gourami. At the moment I have him housed in a 3ft temp tank and in a few weeks time he will go into my custom made 6ft tank. Charlie is on a special diet that consist off green peas, lettuce, tomatoes and bloodworms. Charlie is extremely happy and growing fast. He is a absolute pleasure to have him as part off my family.
My new Frontosa's (2x) are a healthy pair not sure as yet whether it's male & female but time will tell. They are Burundi Frontosas so I was told, with slight blue that appears on there head. The Frontosa's are doing well with Charlie and seems compatible.

This is Mom & Dad Red turq, I wont give them real names as i am already too attached to them. Amazing parents and beautiful fish!

Hi guys, never tried to enter one of the photo competitions before so here is my entry. I took the image using my Kodak C913, using the "Blur Reduction" setting for when you take pictures of moving objects like animals. So it blurs the background while highlighting the moving target in the foreground, giving the illusion of motion and speed.
The picture is of my new Red Oscar "John Doe" he has been living in the tank for 2 days now, but he has taken a liking to hiding behind the drift wood and the hornwart plants. And he sure loves his earthworms even though they are about as big as he is. Other than that I have fed him some beef heart and bloodworms and will introduce him to pellets soon.
hope im not too late.. wanted to wait till i got my Apistogramma agassizii before i posted :)

i took this photo with my cannon, very old camera which i dropped a few times.. but i guess it still does the job.
this is my male Apistogramma agassizii. i just got him yesterday from Dirk all the way from Cape Town! really love his colours. He was just put in the tank for like 2 hours b4 i took this pic.. im sure when he settles, he will show more colour :P Right now i have four fish, 2 males and 2 females. These fish really compliment my 63L heavily planted tank! hope they will become less shy after a while and begin breeding..

This is one of two of my albino pangasius catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus)
They were bought when they were about 12 - 15cn long. I have had them for about 2 years and is currently 25 and 30cm in length. What I like about them is that they grow very slowly and their mouths are generally much smaller than the hi fin pangasius (Pangasius Suchi). They are gracious swimmers that like swimming up and down the tank, but because of this constant swimming, other fish might be irritated by this.
We also had some black hi fin pangasius (Pangasius Suchi) but they grew too quickly and in about 6 months time they consumed fish that was 8 - 10cm in lenght whole. So I will never keep them again.

This is the best of about 40 photo's I took as the constatnt swimming normally result in blurry pictures.
