View Full Version : Bonzai Guppies – not funny.
'tis really not my fault, but sometimes in early February this year, I moved all the fish out my one stand containing 6 tanks to other tanks and on completion, I simply unplugged the stand (heaters/lights and filtration) and forgot about the stand for later use.....
Now, the water has evaporated to little more than an inch deep, I've decided to refurbish this stand and put it to use again. When I switched the lights back on, the one tank had 17 guppy fry in it....All in good shape... (not deformed or anything) but the size (and mental ability) of 2 week olds......
If they now start living the "normal" life that they were destined for, (regular feedings/heaters/lights and aeration) I wonder if they'll turn out to be regular sized specimens?? (I'm trully sorry babies, but I really did not notice ye.)
ya they will become normal sized.. may have some diformaties though due to lack of proper food.. but if they were sitting outside they prob fed on the mozies anyways:P
atleasr u saw them b4 it was too late! :)
With the normal feeding they should become just about normal size. Fish are different to mammals in that they grow according to their environment, which is why we can keep so many tropical fish in the aquarium, which grow to sometimes huge sizes in the wild. They just stop growing when the food supply is low or the environment is too restricted, but will start growing again when circumstances change. They might just not quite reach the size of fish kept on a normal diet, but if you breed them, their offspring will be normal.
Fish aparently never stop growing, they only grow ever more slowly the older they get. I read a scientific article from an American university studying the common carp, where they claimed that carp do not die of old age. They claimed that testing some of these huge carp in the rivers, they found they are several hundred years old! They could find no evidence of carp going into an old age stage like other fish!
Bonzai guppies.... Nurf nurf nurf... If you can breed those you'll be a millionaire!

I must just qualify that this post was made last year in August and refers to february 2010..... (not Feb 2011) so those "fry" being refered to was 6 month old Guppies.....

well, seeing we on the subject, lol
did they ever grow out to somewhat normal size?
Yep..... They turned out just fine and was placed with the rest of the guppies when they were big enough not to be eaten to start their own little families and multiply...... Do not ask me however...... to point out those specific 17 in the crowd of many, many thousands (which I got rid of last week)...... but I know they're in there.
