i use activated carbon.. i read that it keeps the water clear and removes impurities such as amonia..

ive used it to clear up my water when the tannins have leached into my tank from the wood (yellow water)

its also good to use in your filter when u starting up your tank and your benificial bacteria havnt established themselves yet.

im not sure how true this is, but i also read that it may remove some nutrients that u use for plants.. not sure on this one.. any one care to comment? if so that would be a bummer.. but im still using it now in my planted setups with no problem

I use it once in a while in a tank for no real reason other than to maybe remove something that might have build up. Paranoid much? :)

Only keep it to remove meds if I really needed to dose some.

Aparently it keeps your water very clear and also aids in absorbing organics and also removes traces of meds after u treat fish, i dont know if it will remove ferts from your water in planted tanks, but in my reeftank i use it to polish the water and absorb toxins sometimes released from corals

I do not use it.Instead i would resort to water changes and/or other products such as Purigen.
Maybe i just do not like the idea of "charcoal" in my tank........
I would rather use it for a braai

I used to run carbon and purgen, loved the crystal clear water.

I only use it in my quarantine tank.

Isnt that the one place that you are going to use meds ?
