Hey are any of you guys or gals using the HMF filter system seems very easy and uncomplicated but am trying.to find the right type of foam

On the last page Prof B mentions that he has gotten hold of the correct sponge, try sending him a PM to see if he still has.

yes, the correct sponge is the key ingredient here...
it is however a bulky option, but then thats subject to your overal tank setup and dimensions...
I actual got some sponge from Prof .. and added it to my convict tank a week or so ago ... compared to other filter that I have had on this tank - aquaclear 70 HOB & cascade 600 this filter had done a brilliant job keeping the tank water clear. I am using more or less the same l/h pump behind the hamgurg but the area that you filter through seems to be the winner. Early days - tie will tell when it comes to cleaning this filter. Yes it is big mine takes up one whole side of the tank 5cm sponge + 5 cm pump and heater. but its on the window side so it is not my way - far less than the HOB was.
