Hi All
I have base rock un my malawi tanks. I am wanting to grow moss or plants in the rock. The problem is it has been bugging me now for a long time it just looks boring. Any ideas????????
Size of tank, lighting filtration and all that - Give us a bit more informaiton maybe a picture of what it looks like at present?
Try some Java fern and Anubia. Not sure if mosses will grow in a malawi tank where the inmates enjoy chomping plants.

Most mosses won't work with Malawis... well, depending on what kind of Malawis you're keeping. In general, though, the majority of Malawis don't get on so well with plants. The mosses don't stand a chance.
A lot of the plants that will work in a Malawi tank aren't 'local' to Malawi, but do help to get some green into the tank. As Risen said, used Anubias and Java fern. Anubias can take a beating and nothing eats Java fern. Both of these are tied to the rock initially, and anchor themselves over time.
Alternatively, you can use plastic or silk plants. There are some really good looking ones that have been coming out recently, and not at bad prices either. Look around.
Use some CFL lights to get the algae to grow on your rocks. Good natural food for the fish. Good luck with try plants!
Hey roderick..i doubt you will have much success with moss in the malawi tanks..like i told you..they will rip it apart..go for Java Fern of Anubias..and if your fish are not digging to much, you could try planting valliserania ( excuse the spelling) in the tank..this plant occurs naturally in Lake Malawi. hope that helps..
