It's not real glass. It's plastic.

They alright with the smaller type tanks, but the bigger they get, the more unstable they are. The "glass" is 12mm in a big tank, but in the bending process, the glass thins down a bit at the corners.. so this creates a weak point in the tank. I've already had a 3 ft curved glass burst on me whilst I been out at work. Fortunately the tanks stayed 1/4 full, so fish survived, but heater burnt out, filter burnt out, and carpets stank for weeks!!

That really sucks, i never had a tank burst on me neither crack or chip... I still like curved "glass" tanks but till they find a suitable solution for that problem i don't see myself buying one very soon...

Decent made curved glass aquariums will not just go and crack. You have to make sure that its 100% level. There are 1000's of people using them without any problem.
Its like most cars, millions owrk fine but there is always one that might not be OK from the get go.

That's true but also the power bills are getting outrageous and i foresee me having to give up on this hobby...

I like the look of the Juwel, Jebo ect tanks but personally I would not shelf out that much money for a tank like that. You can take that money and use it to build a custom tank 4 times the size and have money left to get everything else you need.

You are quite right there Vis. My initial curved tank was a gift. I was none-the-wiser that the tank was already 10 years old, and was a cheap import. The tank is still available at AK... but I wouldn't touch it. I did move it a few times in my flat half full of water, and I suppose this also inflicted a bit of stress on the glass. If it wasn't for the insurance company not being prepared to pay me out for the tank, but only replace it with a similar tank, I would have gone for a custom make. I could have bought a custom with a custom hood for about the same price as my current tank... but it would have been double the size. Needless to say... I made sure they at least got me a Jebo. (I tried to push for a Jewul, but no luck there!)

Never knew you could get insurance on your tanks??

If your household contents are covered under glass breakages, then the tank falls into that. It's a loophole, but my insurance company respected it. I didn't specifically cover the tank, but when it burst, I phoned them to take a chance, and the person dealing with the claim found that loophole for me!

yes ,people i am alive ,howcome no juwel pics ,you could be right on the glass being plastic as it is scratch prone ,bt so are all the juwels ,check out the condition of the tanks @ {XYZ} pets ,there is over 12 tanks and they are rio ,vision and lidos they all pretty scratched .but the fel of the 'glass' is very real

I have a sun-sun tank, 400lt... Also with the curved glass, also with 2 build in filters, I have removed one of them, they just slide out. I am very happy with my sun sun and am looking at a sun sun 1000lt at a price off R35000, this tank have aluminuim lid and aluminuim cabinets, inside the cabinet I found a huge filter..and I mean Massive.....I must admit I do not have the space for it, I just love the 1000lt space!!! Eish.....ja met eish ja....
