View Full Version : Siamese fighter: tank mates
Hi guys,
I hope I put this in the right section.
I am thinking about putting a fish or two in the tank with Solly. I will only do this in a few weeks and by that time, my tank will be 2 months old (ie: it's been cycled)
It's a 25L, 1 and a half foot planted tank. It's filtered, heated and has lighting.
I read that you can use danio's and white clouds in a tank with a betta but my tank isn't big enough for a school.
So I was thinking of getting two panda cory's (they will stay small) or an otocinclus.
Will having these/this fish in my tank affect Solly's personality?
I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Thanks
Kelly
Kelly,
Why not get 4 or 5 Female betta's? You will see "Solly" suddenly liven up a bit!
Hi Kelly it should have no affect on solly. He will have a go at them once or twice and then decide that they are boring
and ignore them. They might even become friends. I would go for some corries.

iv got 2 khuli loaches in my tank with my betta, and some ladies coming next week friday whoohoo lol. cories should be fine, he'll probably ignore them. mine ignores his clean up crew
Ok thanks for the advice everyone. Zoom, I think I would like to get some females, thanks for the good idea. I'll wait till MTS kicks in :) and get another betta plus females.
Glad to hear that Solly will ignore the cory's. That makes me feel alot better!

discus also seem to be fine with 1 betta with them
If you go for Kuhli Loaches or Otocinclus, they only like being in groups of no less than 6! They can be kept in less, but you will not see their natural behaviour, and the fish may wither or wilt away?
Shakester, keeping Discus in a 1.5ft tank is not an option. I cannot believe you suggested it!

oh woops never see his tank size
,i just ment that they can live together ,
no discus for you KEL-SO !
Bettas and Discus should not live together!! Temperature preferences are completely different!

Discus and Bettas have vastly different water parameters...
Terrible advise, irrespective of the tank size. I'm sorry to critise, not my intention, but I really dont believe you should make comments without proper knowledge of the species concerned. Someone could listen and take your advise, and then kill all their fish!
Thanks for the advice. I realise the panda's are too big to get a big enough school so I'm going for a school of pygmy corries.
pygmy corries
Really great litte guys. Have 2 after one got stuck and died.
Shame. Sorry about that Vis.
