Hey all
I've seen this species once at a small pet store but never again... just wondering if anybody else gets these guys or can get me some?
Thanks

strange you cant find these, they're usually imported quite regularly... check with the bigger shops in your area and they should be able to help you out. I know of two importers supplying durban that do have these in stock right now.

Just to be sure, do you know if these are actually the Clown knifefish, Chitala (Notopterus) ornata? A lot of people confuse them and their names. This also happens regulary with the species I'm looking for and the African Knifefish, Xenomystus nigri.
Here is the fish I'm talking about:

It can be differentiated from the African Knifefish by the fact this species has a dorsal fin, and then is different from the regular Clown knifefish by having a plain coloured body and no ocelli (eye-spots) on the side.
yep, thats the one... common name is BLACK CLOWN KNIFE FISH

Well if anyone can get these for me I'd be quite satisfied. :) None of the shops here sell these fish.
Have you tried natures petland? I suggest you go have a look for yourself, since some of their fish are incorrectly labelled.

Yeah I've been there, lots of times. I've picked up some respectable fish but never have I seen a N. notopterus there.
I've found a supplier who can get me some from Cape Town, so no need to worry anymore.
Thanks

I actually was gonna say Northlands in the previous post.
