Greetings everyone.

In light of recent events there are going to be a few changes made to TASA over the next week or two, we are doing this to try and make TASA a much better and happier place for everyone and make it enjoyable for both new and old members alike.

There have been some rather nasty comments, fights, arguments etc. recently and we are now working on correcting that and will be keeping an eye out for argumentative or unnecessary posts. As a result of this, one or two members have been temporarily banned.

The first change that has happened is that we have removed the option for members to give other members Infractions. Infractions can now only be used by moderators. If you find a post offensive or that you think needs to be brought to our attention then please use the Report Post button - http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/images/oceanzero/buttons/report.gif, we will then take action on that post/member if need be.

We will also be adding another mod or 2 to help out on the forum.

I hope you will all see these changes as a move forward and as a means to making the forum a better place for everyone.

could you make another change?

When you are editing a post with a pic, could you make it so you can see the [IMG] code and not the whole image?

Nice to see the infractions have been taken away. Good luck to the mods and the new mods to be! Modding is no easy task.

That's a bit of a difficult one, I have noticed however, that if you use Google Chrome browser then you get the [IMG] codes and not the pics. I'm not sure if we are able to change that. it seems like it may be browser dependant.

Then it might be a admin only option,i use the same browser on other vBulletin forums and most of them only show the code when you edit a post.

Its like there has been a sudden expansion of tasa. The moderators are the right way to go, although not an easy task.

On a lighter note:

Stormer try changing the setting in your UserCP to what editor you want to use. Go to "Edit Options" and scroll right to the bottom. Select something other than the WYSIWYG editor.

So ZP!!

Do you have any one in mind for the Mods?? Have you already picked/approached those people??

I think this is a VITAL step forward, and not a moment too soon! I love this forum, but it really has gotten awkward and tense recently!!

IF you hadn't disabled your Rep power, it would be +2 to you and Rory!

Well Done!!
G!

Nice idea ZP. Maybe this can change the way I post complete nonsense all day. Truth is
i really get bored during the day and people on TASA is the best to talk to. Thats why
the off topic side should have its post count disabled

Thanks G. Rory has some people in mind and I have also given him my suggestions. It is not something we can do overnight as we can't just choose any Tom Dick and Harry, we need to look for the 'right' type of person. I'm pretty sure Rory will have made a decision in a few days time.

Maybe you should just stick to the Off Topic forum :p

Change is always a good thing. Can't wait to see who the new mods are. Goodluck

Posts in the whole Off topic section don't count towards post count (shouldn't anyway). Also post counts have been recalculated so some might have dropped a bit.

If anyone has suggestions for mods please pm me. And yes we can't have any Tomtom, Dickdick or HarryHarry... ;)

Ok I don't know who the new mods are but I hate them already... Just joking :) ... But seriously I do h)

All sounds good guys. What about a once off name change free of charge. Like the time you could go from vodacom to mtn?
I really want to be spongebob :)

Ooo forgot what I actually wanted to ask one forum had these really cool fish emoticons, can we get something like that?

Thanks for the mods for the changes, we have been having some bad winds blowing on this forum of late that we can do without and I agree that some aggressive editing of threads has been required.

I actually opened the "Rules of this Forum" thread a few moments ago, and it may be a good idea even for older members to do this again. It actually refreshes one's memory about what is permitted and what not and points out what the objectives of the forum are. I think that new members need to be forced more strongly to go through these rules before becoming members in order to prevent the problems that we have been having.

However, let us hope that the new changes will improve discussions and lead to more constructive interactions between members.

Kind regards,

Dirk

sadly cellphone browsing and candidate attorney work has had me become more of a casual reader than a poster, so many daily posts, so little time. i didnt even see the bad elements refered to above. But being a forum stalker for 10years + now, i think proactive change and active moderating of bad elements is an excellent idea to keep a forum community thriving. Good initiative guys!

By the way ALL infractions have been deleted. "Normal" (that's arguable) members can't give infractions any more. (sorry for you)

Gareth

Rory, when you say they are deleted does that mean you can't see them in the UserCP?
why I ask is because the 2 I have are still there....

Refresh?

I support this decision, quite a few of my friends are forum moderators and so I know a bit of how it can be. I was offline over this weekend as I was at an event, then I wasn't at a PC, and then I got capped, so I missed any nastiness that may have happened over that time period. I'm wondering what happened, but it is not at all necessary to know, I'm just curious.

Zoom
01-06-2010, 11:51
I don't think it was one necessary nasty that can be pin-pointed... but I think there has been a lot of bad vibes, unnecessary comments, poor attitudes that has culminated to the moderators having to re-look at the current setup of the forum.

I believe a few more moderators could assist Rory and Zebra Pleco to keep the forum clean, on target, and prevent the bad "atmosphere". We are all adults here, and as such, 90% of us are either at work, with the other 10% probably still in school or studying. So to spread the moderating load over a few more moderators will just assist with the load.

can the "invisible mode" option be removed?

not a cool feature IMO...allows "trolling"

Dolphin, I believe this has been disabled already. Certain members are still able to do it though... but not too sure why they would be allowed to.

Remember, we are all looking at the forum in different views, depending on the choice you made at the bottom left, of the page.

So, one could be looking at TASA (Blue) and others at TASA2 (green)...

Gert and others,

I am red green colour blind and the change to the green version which it defaulted to was seriously causing me to be blind, so I am very grateful that the normal TASA option does still work. BTW, do you know that one out of 25 males are red green colour blind whilst only one in 1000 females are colour blind. Surely, there must be a couple more of you colour blind guys on the forum? I think that we will then form a special club, something like the Jik junkies, any suggestions?

Thanks and kind regards,

Dirk

Hey Dirk,

Thanks for the post!

I am actually dyslexic, and a specific form of Dyslexia at that which is called Eyrns Syndrome. Whilst it is not a form of colour blindness, in my case it is actually affected greatly by Red light.

The problem is that my eyesight is actually TOO good! So good infact that I can see a plane flying very far away, and be able to tell you what it is when the person besides me can't even see the dot!

I cannot read Red writing on a Blue background, and also when I read black ink printed on white paper, I can see all the colours that have leached (via Chromatography) into the paper around each letter!

This makes it incredibly hard to read, and slows me down considerably! So what I had to use was a Green acetate see through sheet over the page, and it would help a lot!

Anyways, maybe these two posts should go over to the 'way off topic' forum?

Back to the thread!

Regards
G!

I past my Commercial pilots license medical and a week after that I got glasses. And by passing everything I thought i eyesight was darn good. But when I got my glasses I could really see allot more detail in objects 40m and futher away. And by wearing them I get allot less headaches then before. But I hate wearing glasses, I keep looking over them.

Salmon,

I think that we are going to start claiming special status and rights.... Red-green colour blindness has the advantage that I can see through any form of camouflage of buck or anything else. I am always the first one to see animals in a national park, so this has its advantages!

Kind regards,

Dirk

SalmonAfrica
03-06-2010, 21:32
Dirk, the same applies to me! Well, not that I'm out in the bush much, being the water-baby I am, but I always spot stonefish before others do!

It's been useful to some extent... except failing art classes in my earlier years of high school. Regardless, it's a unique trait that I'm quite proud of. I still get a giggle out of the reactions of people when I tell them that I'm colour-blind. The first thing that they do is point at something and ask me what colour it is :D The next five minutes are spent explaining red-green colourblindness.

I think that we are going to start claiming special status and rights....Well, we were both born before 1994... do you think we can put ourselves down for 'previously disadvantaged'?

Rory

Changed the style back to the old one.
The "new" one was actually based on an older version of vBulletin so had a few too many incompatibilities. I'm sure a few people have seen the security token missing error.

If you like the new one and don't have any problems you can switch back by selecting TASA2 on the bottom left of the page.
