Hey guys. My kribs in my community 1.2 have just spawned! They had been excavating a flower pot and some rocks, but as I had never seen any eggs, didn't think that they were really active. Got home this evening to find them busily defending a school of about 30 babies, which are about 4mm long. AWESOME!

Some advice though please: they are in a tank with silver tips, gouramis, 2 angels, cories, synodontis (about 6cm each), black widows and a yo yo loach. Should I be worried about the others getting them. The parents are busily defending them, but what about when the lights go off? Will they retreat back into their cave, which is very hard to acsess (especially for the synos) Is it ok to leave them in there, how would I move them?

the fry are feeding nicely off the leaves of some Cabomba (I think), and I've got some of the prof's fry food. Will that be ok?

Also, how old are the fry...? This is the first time that they've been out of their cave with their parents.

Cheers all, I will post pictures when they are big enough to be seen by my bad camera :)

Never bred Kribs before (well done by the way :)), but I'm afraid that the other fish will probably eventually get a hold of them. The silver tips are quite fast, angels and the loach will happily snack on small fish, and the Synos will make the best of the night to find an additional food source. As good parents as they are, Kribs won't be able to hold them all off, especially as the babies become more independant.

A definite way of sucessfully raising a brood is to set up a tank for the Kribs for their breeding. In this way, there will be far less of a threat of predation, and you'll be able to feed the fry and keep the water cleaner much easier than you could in your community tank.

SA, I had set up a separate tank, I just never got around to moving them. Frustrating! I suppose that natural selection will take it's course, and if any survive they will be the strongest... I will definitely move them when the brood is eaten/grown up.

I bred my Kribs in m community tank and I must say that my Kribs are the best parents ever.... They looked after the Fry and made sure nothing happened and they were able to raise about 90% of the fry to adult hood.

They do seem like really good parents, thanks Gareth :)

After a week i remove my baby kribs and start to feed them brine shrimp. After a month the kribs will start to breed again
