You should give the guys on TASA a cheaper price that what you advertise on junkmail...
hmmm, nice work slayer...yes, as a community, members on TASA should OBVIOUSLY get a discounted price...
yeah, i fully agree on that, perks of being a member, pity we dont have card that would entitle us to discounts at LPS, hmm I suppose that why we have the sponsors

I don't get why people expect a cheaper price here on TASA. Sure, you shouldn't be making a profit on what you sell here, but to bear in mind that the OP bought the fish, fed them, grew them up and spent some amount of money just keeping them alive.
What he's put here is less than what I'd pay for the same fish of the same size at my LFS.
I agree with Salmon I give fish away when I can or I will sell them, and thats that you dont like then tough...
i don't agree with that, this is a place of learning as well as establishing friendships along the way...i would not want to pay LPS prices, if thats the case then we might as well buy our fish from LPS's, we all know that we get ripped off by LPS's, TASA is where we try and cut that out...just my thoughts...
Look at the end of the day this is a great place and I have earned a lot but in life we can not just get stuff for free... otherwise Dolphin would not have a business and I would be out of business as well (not fish related)

So... either we get ripped off by LPS's, or the people who are selling stuff here (at a decent price too) must get ripped off? Doesn't really seem fair.

I agree and disagree with y'all.
Selling on the forum should be cheaper than LPS, because we don't have high centre rents etc to cover.. BUT buy the same token, you don't find half those fish in an LPS in any case, so how can you compare the prices to an LPS that doesn't even bring in the stuff.
Let's look at it this way... who in there right mind would pay R300-R450 for a pair of Apisto's at an LPS.... no one.. not because we don't want them... but because we NEVER SEE them in LPS. So when a sponsor or TASA buddie get's them in for us... R300-R450 is considered a bargain for a pair of them because they are not the usual fish.
I personally will happily GIVE away my angel fry to any member willing to do the same to me. Offer me a fish, plant or hardward I'd like, and I'll give you the fish gladly. I'm not breeding the fish to make money... I'm breeding them because that's what angels do.. breed like bunnies! (If I can just get the fry to survive now.. then I'll have some for the forum.... until then... I learn how to breed them).

Kewl zoom hope i can get some from u
its not fair SA,you are correct,i recently gave away my tinfoils,TASA is not a place of business lizid, its a tightly knit community, its where we look out for each other and help as much as we can..when i first joined everyone was so helpful,i did not think of it as an online forum but instead a group o friends that i chat to,so if we cant give our friends the best prices possible, then who can we give?
I agree, JesseG, but lets say I breed my Dwarfs now should I give them away or sell them, and how about dolphin who gives us really, REALLY good prices...there is nothing wrong with making money but it is how one goes about it... where the problem comes from...
okay,i think you are misunderstanding me,dolphin runs a pet store, its his bread and butter, you cant compare your dwarfs breeding to his business,if you were breeding fish for a living then thats a different story..if your dwarfs breed, and you want to sell it then by all means do so,wat im saying is try and give the guys on tasa a good price..

I am pretty new here and my family has been in retail for almost 40 yrs.... Yes , the individual does have to pay for power , food , medicine BUT the biggest killer in retail is rental and staffing which he/she does not have to pay when operating from home, so the prices should be better then retail even if its 10%!
if you were breeding fish for a living then thats a different story..if your dwarfs breed, and you want to sell it then by all means do so,wat im saying is try and give the guys on tasa a good price..
Ok if I buy my dwarfs for R350 a pair and breed them, I think it would be more than fair asking money for the fry. Would not charge R350 again but would like to get some of my R350 back again.
okay,i did say if you want to sell them then by all means do so..

Ok my throat really hurts so maybe you understood me wrong. Was agreeing with your statement about selling them
oh okay...sorry for hi-jacking this thread tropicalboy

Firstly, just because this is a community, doesn't mean that someone can't sell something at the price he wants. If I bought 2 barbs that were R10 each and I spent R100 on feeding them for a year and making them double their size, why the hell can't I sell them for R20? The investment into the 2 fish was R120 and I can't sell them for R15 each because you saw the same fish at a LFS? I'd tell you exactly where you could go and stick it bud...
Secondly, by just swopping rare and hard to find fish, you make the rare and hard to find fish lose their value. So let's say Dolphin brings in some A. Black Chins, and he sells them for R400 per pair. He deals in rare and hard to find fish, it's his business. Now let's say I breed these fish and give away the juveniles. If Dolphin ever brings them in again, nobody will buy them because they would be able to get them free from me. Thus depreciating the actual value of these rare fish. Granted, I wouldn't sell them for R400 per pair, but you get my point. With some fish, I firmly believe that you should sell them, to keep the trade healthy. It's always neccessary to bring in new blood of the species every so often, and if you depreciate the value of the fish, it makes it harder and harder for someone to bring in those same species again, because they would make a loss at the end of the day. So, technically what you want to do is put all the LFS's out of business and destroy the hobby in South Africa... nice.
Ok, I'll get off my high horse now.
Just remember, I started out thinking this way, just like everyone else here, but one needs to face facts. Nothing in life is free. There is a cost to everything.

Good post!
May I suggest a simpler solution ... split the "Classifieds (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/forumdisplay.php?f=26)" section - 1 free or swap the other at a monetary cost. And if you are really opposed to having to see people pay for things then ignore (not sure you can unsubscribe) the $$$ Classifieds (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/forumdisplay.php?f=26) etc.

I am registered on two other forums, one is cars and the other car audio.I must say this is the first time I have heard of people dictating prices of the sellers goods. If a seller wants to sell a guppy for R50 and you do not want to buy it , then do not make negative comments at the expense of the seller. This is a hobby and a very expensive one indeed.I mean I have lost alot of money in this hobby whether its hardware or fish, but then again its a hobby and I enjoy it.The way some people react, makes me wonder. My tank surprisingly cracked on tuesday morning, its going to cost me about R700 to have it repaired excl the transport. The only reason I am selling the fish is because I have no place to house them.
So guys the prices of the fish advertised are really cheap opposed to petshop prices.I feed these fish a balanced diet consisting of tetra bits, doro min, bloodworms, spirulina, algae wafers , vegetables etc..My filtration system consists of a sump 3000l/hr,fluval 403 and eheim 2217.So as you can see I really enjoy this hobby and do not want to be seen as overcharging you guys.
Make me a realistic offer and you can have all the fish.
Regards
okay, firstly slagter, you should learn to read properly, those examples you gave about the barbs are exagerrated, you completely misunderstood my posts, where did i even mention swopping? As for prices, this is not a dictatorship,we all know that,so slagters rambling on things that we already know..
my point is this,if the fish costed you R50 and you spent R80 on raising it,then R110 would be a fair price..not like those ridiculous examples slagter gave..

point well taken SA, i will admit when i am wrong, sorry to all those who followed this thread, but i meant a 10% discount if tropicalboy wanted to..
what a rediculous thread... Excellent points Slagter and thanks for that last post SalmonAfrica
I think the main thing we can learn from this is, that if you dont got something constructive to say, keep it shut.
Seriously, out of all the forums i post on regularly this is the first time i have seen members demand a better price just because they are members of the same forum! Guess some people just have no tact.
OK, I reported this thread to the moderators asking them to moderate this thread back to it's original intention... i.e the sale of the fish, and to take out all the cr@p of us busting this guy's b@lls about his prices. Dolphin made good point that it is pretty rude to comment on prices.
Now I am asking the moderators PUBLICALLY to moderate this thread. Moderators... you guys are loosing it here. You allowing blacklisted species to continually be discussed (In other threads), letting people argue over petty thinge like price here... and dish out infracions when YOU feel we are being rude.

is it 3 pangs for R100 by the way?
Didn't mean to cause such a stir. You should be able to ask your price for your belongings. I for one will not sell stuff at the same price to a TASA member than I would sell to the general public. Feel like I'm not being fair to fellow members. My thinking is a little different and we all think differently. If I don't have space or for some reason want to change my fish. I will consider if I keep them longer I will be maintaining them longer so it will cost me. I will save on my pocket in the long run if I sell cheap. I'm sure people who are in business know their competition and we little guys on the forum can't really hurt their business. We by no means are their competition. I think its better to buy fish from this forum, members breeding and selling fish to us puts less pressure on nature. Who knows if wholesalers / suppliers / breeders abroad are really breeding all or any fish. They could be just harvesting lakes and rivers.

I am terribly sorry that we are not at your beckoned call 24/7. You're all adults here, why the hell do you all act like 2 year olds? Is it because you are anonymous behind a keyboard? I'm getting sick and tired of the pathetic nonsense that goes on on this forum, if you people can't act your age and post responsibly then it's time for some of you to be removed from the forum.
To ALL of you that commented on this thread about the prices etc. You are ALL in violation of the rules in the classifieds forum. Before you shout the odds and spit your dummy's out, READ THE RULES about posting etiquette.
Infractions will now be handed out, receive 3 and you're banned, end of story, getting sick of this crap now.
To the original thread starter, please accept my apologies on behalf of the members making comments on this thread. This thread will be closed, please start a new thread and PM me as soon as someone makes a comment on that thread apart from enquiring about buying the fish, I will ban them immediately. Thank you.
