I set up this tank in January and I think I've finally found the right balance. The plants are doing really well and are easy to maintain. I have 5 angels, one green deacon, 2 otos, 3 corys (sterbaii and julies), a pleco, 2 hoplos, 2 rams, 2 A. agassizii, 3 female A. cacatuoides, 4 pigmy gouramis, a pair of dwarf gouramis and some bettas. All get along quite peacefully although the deacon is quite small at this stage.

I added a pic of my hoplos on the flower pot they are always together its really sweet.

It's there ;) The 'bigger' fish are quite small still, but when they grow I'm going to have to move some of them.

Lovely tank Whisper ^^,
Few questions... Do you have a betta male in the tank?
How do the rams, dwarf gouramies and betta get along?

Thanks guys.
Linxie I have a male betta in the tank and I have no problems with him and my rams or dwarf gouramis. The only fish that have been agressive towards my male betta are my apisto pair. The male betta will only be aggressive towards other male bettas, he doesn't bother my other fish. I think if you had a breeding pair of gouramis or rams it would change the dynamics.

Thanks Whisper :)
I think I might have a male/female pair of dwarf gouramies... the female seems to be colouring quite a bit though, so I'm now not sure of her sex anymore lol

Very nicely done, keep a watch on that cabomba, in the right conditions it grows really fast! I like your mix of fish.

Linxie that's so strange? What size are they? That happened to my two 'apparently female' bettas, they turned out to be males much to my dismay.

Thank you guys. Nirv I know it grows really quickly! Those little bits are runners that have positioned themselves quite appropriately lol.

That's bad :( Were you able to separate them before they fought?
The gouramies are maybe 5cm in length. Don't have a ruler here lol.
Maybe she just seems more colourful to me now because she was quite dull at the LFS.

I know! I couldn't understand why they were behaving so aggresively as they had always been so peaceful before and are siblings and supposedly female. Yes I separated them ;)
Oh ok so they aren't young at all. That makes sense, just seemed strange as I had always thought that they were plain silver.

Nice tank – like the Hoplo cats, just keep in mind that they get quite big, 150mm to 200mm. I also recall reading that they are bubble nest builders.

I had an oscar with some vallisneria that just happened to be in the tank and I left it to grow or get eaten, I didn't mind. One day I watched as the oscar removed each of the leaves from the rhizome, and proceeded to retrieve each of the now floating leaves and attempted to "plant" them. Was amazing to watch.

Lol I'm glad I don't have Oscars then!
Khuli Loach I knew they were going to grow quite a bit. I'm planning on upsizing my tank at a later stage... the parents are not going to be impressed. Wow I should research that would be awesome to see them build one!

Thank you guys ;)

Your tank is really beautiful. I love the idea of putting a pot in. Kinda makes it look like regte egte garden.
