View Full Version : What on earth is this?
Sorry not fish related. Found this worm crawling in our house. Its 10cm and looks agro when you touch it. never seen this here before.Does anyone know what kind of worm it is? And don't worry I have no fish big enough to feed this to.
Worm to become butterfly of some sort.
We use to see a lot of them back in the kalahari at a time. You get some big green ones too. It has a little tail almost like a dog and two big fake eyes near the head.
I think they are pretty harmless, except maybe for your favourite pot plant.
I think it might be some kind of night moth's catapillar, not sure why that came up in my head.
Acherontia atropos cattipillar (Death's-head Hawk-moth)
that thing is going to become a fluterby my friend, im not at home other wise i would have looked up for you
I think vis is right. well i set it free now. just hope it can Find the right food where i released it. then it can morph into a beautiful uhm moth hehe
or bat food:sick:
more like cat food. they want that thing really badly
If you have the time and see another one, you can try drop them off at Butterfly World, they often take in interesting species like this one.
do we have a butterfly world in Gauteng?
I don't think so... The one in Cape Town is in Klapmuts - about 30km down the N1. Still a bit far for you guys though...

its a hawk moth catapillar. they will cut your arums, fuchias etc down to nothing over night. best to kill it
best to kill it
Lol someone had to say it
We have had a few of these is our garden. Definitely garden munchers of note.
My kitty has eaten one of these. She brought it into our kitchen, chewed it to get all its guts out, smeared it all over the floor, licked it up, and then swallowed what was left.
Very tastey apparently.
