FYI, the picture does not do any justice to this tank. In my opinion, this is the best looking tank I've seen face-to-face. Light & plant distribution is just perfect. Well done eskimo! :)

Wait for the rebuild and then physically go through to Eskimo and check it out

Ye! your tank looks a-ma-ZING! holy moly! think i'll make it my background! :)
Seriously... almost can't believe it! love the octopus-like-looking-plant-thingy in the middle. how long have you had that tank and how do you remember all 40 different names of your plants, one is hard enough! haha!

solex69 tells me u live in Stellenbosch? i'm studying there atm! would be great if i could come see that tank for real, lemme know if it's possible? :D

Oh ye Solex69, plz lemme know if you need anything - dad owns a carpentry factory in Paarl so if you have some woods that need some cuttings i'll be glad to help you out? Can make u all cupboards/tables and stuff? hehe :)

Sorry not Hijacking thread just replying on Henk. As far as I’m aware there are some reefers in CT that is in the process of organizing this great event the best person to speak to will most probably be Regal or Muz. But if by any chance it’s not happening I will still try and make a trip to Cape Town as there is many people I would love to meet and having a opportunity to see Eskimos tank I would love.

Hi Eskimo it is the International Marine Aquarium Conference of South Africa held annually in different provinces ever year arranged by the provincial marine associations. Year one was hosted by the Durban Reef Club and last year was hosted by the Gauteng marine association at Emperors with Anthony Calfo, Eric Borneman and Christine Williams as the international speakers. IMACSA 2009 is hosted by the Cape Town Reef Club and will be held during October with Anthony Calfo as the guest speaker. An awesome event to promote first of all the marine side but last year the tropical side was introduced as well. So nice to meet fellow hobbyist and just spend great times discussing our love for the hobby.

In the process of setting up my pressurized Co2 I stopped adding my DIY Co2 and dosing fertz, as a result my plant growth started to suffer and I started getting algae issues so over the weekend (after a chat with a friend) I decided to get it all up and running again and the result was so much pearling the top of my tank looks like a Beta bubble nest:p just thought Id show you guys..

Philfarm

No at the moment im using DIY Co2 so its almost impossible to keep things constant or reliable, Im working on a Pressurized system and have all the parts now all I need is a connector for my regulator and Im sorted..

I think you meaning the glosso, it can be a tricky plant but yeah sure just pm me when your in stellenbosch..

@ Ruan, probably an hour or two, its one of my favorite things to do when ever I just need to calm down or just relax. I have long tweazers so dont really stick my hands in the tank for pruning and this tank hardly needs waterchanges so its all very easy actually.. :)

" its one of my favorite things to do when ever I just need to calm down or just relax."

when i need a time out, or some zone out time, i go out and water and prune my bonsai tables, same effect i guess, plants are very calming i guess, i wish i had the light setup done by now, i want to expand my plant collection, but for ferts etc to be effective, and to better cater for the plants, my light is a Major limiting factor at present

Lighting is the best way to improve the growth of a setup(with exceptions of course) you can be successful with lower light but its more difficult and you will never grow plants to an optimum level, Its not my goal to keep plants alive I want them to flourish!!!

As a student you should always be looking out for the best deals; light bulb R15-R40 + ballasts +-R100 its not going to be the best but they still work! I prefer to keep my lighting at about 5wpg but without decent reflectors who knows what I really get.. ha ha I also dont have a hood anymore mine broke and was replaced by tinfoil:push:

i've got a big roll of tin plating, or some kind of metal, its shiny, i'm gonna cut the size of the canopy inside's worth from that roll and then add that in the canopy when i build it, so reflection would be good i think, just need the wood, will probably build it at end november, vacation time...

Iv been using that double thick tin foil but people keep sneaking into my room(like 2night) and cutting out pieces to use for hubbly :(

To tell you the truth I dont think its that effective anyway, painting the canopy white or using white pvc piping cut in half would probably be better!

No problem Phil - I'll find somewhere to stash it until you get here - contractors starting on Monday so I'm clearing EVERYTHING out that is currently not being used :)

Hi Phil
If you glue metal/mirror foil like you use on windows inside your PVC piping you should have a pretty good reflection. Also these foils hardly have any metal in them. I'm always weary with metal, splashing/ condensing-water and electricity

 It's not bonsai - it's wood with aquatic moss  and if you are still looking for more pics go google Filipe Oliveira.

Ha ha Im in the process of making a setup like that (but hopefully better) shame I must give credit where its due, Filipe had a brilliant Idea that was done very well.

Should I start a new thread or post the pic's here? Although at the moment this tank is being used to hold apisto fry so my progress isn't quite going 2 plan :)

@Guido thats not a bad idea, it would save you alot on reflectors and be eccentially the same. But just plain white piping is also very reflective and works well from what Iv heard, maybe I'll try both ways and let you know which is better..

@Vee will you or Gav be around 2 morro? Would have come 2day but just woke up and my head isn't too happy with me!

Most of it was found on my farm in natal, but whenever I visit anywhere In SA I cant help but take a look in the local dams/streams,

As for Identification; Iv tried and this is the response I got "the only way you're going to be able to positively identify some of these bryophytes, is under a microscope":p but I would go for some type of Taxiphullum sp.

Here is another cool moss I found in Stellenbosch;

oh and Yeah it is Riccia, its actually very common in SA you find it everywhere in the warmer climates..
