Zebra plecs you will only get on import. friend of mine got some us R650 a fish.... they are also banned from export in Brazil so you have to find a breeder
Henk Hugo
07-02-2009, 07:07
also dont pay any money upfront unless you a. know the supplier and b. have seen the fish. i have often seen guys importing "zebra plecs" and then its actually L2, L74s, LDA1, LDA 19 etc

lol than i would not know where ti start hey.what should i look for in a rue zebra pleco?
Henk Hugo
08-02-2009, 16:47
These are true zebra plecs.... if they dont look 100% like that then its not... you will have to google a breeder or i can ask my mate where he got his. you need to do some serious research on them as they are very hard to keep

i have done some reasearch into them i a wanting to keep them with my discus so i sould meet all the watter parameters but im not t sure of how compatable they are with other plecos and clown loaches
Henk Hugo
08-02-2009, 16:56
i would keep them in a species tank on their own
High-wash
09-02-2009, 07:37
Ok so do you sugest them and the discus i have or just them?
Henk Hugo
09-02-2009, 07:40
Discus you can keep with fish like cardinals, otos, cories etc, but the Zebras i would put in a tank on their own with a powerful filter as they like some flow

City Bowl, please share with use where you found this info. I'm really interested to know if there are any specific restrictions in place.

Guys,
Please google "Zebra pleco export ban" you will find LOADS of info including a wiki posting about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra_pleco
his fish was exported from Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil) in great numbers. Despite this, the zebra pleco is not found on the IUCN red list.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra_pleco#cite_note-Fishbase-0) However, the Brazilian government responded by putting a ban on the exportation of the zebra pleco. Since this ban has been enforced, there has been a trend towards the captive breeding of this exotic and expensive catfish due to its popularity.

The fish is as of Jan 1.2005 banned from exporting from Brazil, together with several other catfish. Expect another 3 or 4 years before they are readily available again, if it happens at all. In the meantime - let's do our best to breed them to keep the numbers up!
Thanks Henk, I'm aware of the ban on L-46 (Hypancistrus Zebra "Zebra Pleco).
The comment made here refers to all Hypancistrus sp. being banned from export due to classication and this is what I need clarity on...
