Hi there, I am a total newbie to planted tanks and I need help and advice please.

I would like to convert a 1.2m marine tank to a planted tank. I do not know the proper way to go about this, can you convert a marine tank with a sump into a planted tank?

If there is anybody in the Table View, Edgemead, Milnerton area, who has the patience and / or inclination to guide me here and "show me the ropes", I would really appreciate it. I am not looking for freebies and somebody to do the work, but somebody who knows what they are doing, has practicle experience and does not mind sharing / teaching that very special knowledge.

I do not mind getting dirty, wet or laughed at..........the only thing I do not do is "electrical stuff"......man that stuff klaps you hard and I have an unholy fear of it. I will gladly pay you to sort out / connect the recommended lights up for me, I will pass you all your tools and bits and pieces and I will do all the running around to get whatever it is you tell me I need........but I don't touch the wires.........those things have got it in for me and I always come off second best. I figure that it is best to quit while I'm still alive

Any and all help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Steve CT

Hi Steve,

Let me first welcome you... and say as a fellow "shockee" you have come to the right place. I think 99.9% of us have experienced the mighty power of the voltage supplied through Eishkom... what with our hands always in tanks, half the time with a heater or pump on etc...

You learn to respect it... and dude... whenever you see a wire... ALWAYS make sure the other end is unpplugged!

Needless to say... your tank with sump sounds perfect. You also in the perfect location for what I consider to be one of the king's of planted tanks. See if you can contact Solex69 via PM (When you have made enough posts). He is in the Blouberg area, and loves helping out with planted tanks. Henk is also in that area, and he will give you the short and sweet answer to any question you might have!
