Super Delta crossed with DoubleTail from the looks of it. Very nice fishy you have there bru . Now get to conditioning and then breeding jong :) I'm dying to see other ppl breeding bettas as well (and post it on here of course)

so she is a she.
Thanks solex!!
Looks a bit male-ish to be honest....check underneath the belly of the fish for an eggspot. If you see one, then female...if not, then male.
Another way to confirm sex, place mirror on side of the tank. If the fish sees itself in the mirror and goes completely ape (flaring at the image), then it's a male. If the fish doesn't even apepar to be phased, then it's female.
The fins are also questionable for it to be female.
It's face also looks a bit like a male to me
Check these things pls and let me know
PS - Did you buy this fish when it was in a tank with other bettas in, or was this fish in its own jar/tank?
Cheers

it was with a bunch of others exactly the same as her/him...
Then it is a female (unless the shop is stupid enough to keep all males in one tank) :)

Dale: would you be interested in getting some actual fighting fish in SA? http://www.atisonbetta.com/Bettafighters.asp this gu sends to the US, maybe if we get a few people interested an import some crazy fish it might be worth it

or just some nice stains..
Females shouldn't flare at their mirror image (well none I've encountered anyway). Did it happen immediately when 'she' saw herself, or did it take her a while whilst 'she' was staring at the image? Check for the eggspot pls, that'll confirm it for you.
Don't bother with Atison, I've been in contact with her before and she is VERY expensive with her bettas. She does have beautiful bettas, but the amount of cash she is charging + shipping just doesn't make it worth it. I've browsed her site inside-out already :)
I can get any tail type I want, but the colour variations are tricky. I guess we can't have our bread buttered on both sides here in S.A, hence we have to try and purify strains ourselves (unless someone imports them at those high prices and onsells it for more)

okay..
so is an egg spot a white dot inbetween two the two bottom fins?
Slummies

let me try rephrase that
a white dot inbetween to ventral fins?
Yep, then female she is :)

Slummies, do you want to upload such large files ?
Slummies
29-01-2009, 08:03
I can make them smaller, its just a bit og a mission. i shoot in RAW format so the images are a tad bigger.
if its a problem for others i can reduce the size

no slummies, i like bigger pics, just takes long to upload 1mb compared to 100kb, just use ms paint to resize, find that to be the easiest option, i also take pics at full res (+/-3mb) and resize to +/-100kb

exactly what i used to do. will do it in the future
Easier way is to open the pics with Microsoft Picture Manager. Select all pics you want to resize then click on "Edit Pictures". Now select "resize" on your right, then select 800 x 600 (or custom size if you want to) and click on OK. Then save them and all done :) Very quick and easy

Have a look at a piece of software called Digital Photo Resizer...
Give it a res reduction percentage (eg 80%), point it at the folder that contains your selected photos and click go. Quick and easy, no quality loss.
HI All,
I also bought two "ITS" about two weeks ago. First thought them female, then when I had them in a tank split in three, they were flaring like mad. Also blowing vast amounts of bubbles. The one even went as far as actually trying to bite the glass to try and get to the other one. But yeah, oviposter is the best bet to see whether it is male/female. Mine turned out to be both female. Oh, and they are both plakat, royal and red coloration.
I also breed bettas, would love to know more about other breeders. I only started again three weeks ago, and already have three spawn, from one female. (She was eggbound)
I'd like to get some halfmoons, anyone know where i might get? I finally found someone that knows a wholesaler that will supply me with nice Crowntails. (I can only get veiltails locally)

hmm plakats.. very nice. iv been looking for some for ages. no luck!!
I am getting home on friday and then will start a breeding process with my halfmoon x delta. i can send you some fry if you like. obviously still going to be while
Oh, Id really love that, thank you! Plakats can be rather expensive, but I got both females from a petshop that obviously didn't know. I know of someone in CapeTown that know a wholesaler that can supply you with plakats. They are in the range of R100 each. She is actually organising me with some Crowntails now, I should have them by the end of the month. Let me know, maybe she could find you some really nice plakats...
