Are the 10 day blocks not suitable? I've never used them, but would be interested to here other people's comments on them?

I have used the 10 day blocks, about 3 times now, I havent had any issues, The block breaks down in the water adding nutrients, this the fish somhow absorbs. If you are not too sure about the blocks, do what i did the first time, have a test run while you are at home. PS the longest I have been away was 6 days

Fish can survive pretty well up to 14 days without food. I've left my fish for up to 7 days before with no hassles at all.

there was a thread like this before I can't post a link from my phone maybe someone can?

what fish do you have ? lets start with that

you could throw in some plants in for the silver dollars to chow .
if your fish are a good size I don't see why they won't be fine for ten days maybe longer !

Fish do not absorb food from the water... They EAT, just like we do. If we put you in a tank with liquidized cheezeburgers, you wont absorb any of them... You'll just leave feeling hungry and you'll stink.

And this is why they don't really make vacation blocks for longer than 10 days.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend any vacation blocks. The particulate they release into the water is extremely small and will probably start to decay before the fish actually find any of it to eat... If you are going away for a few days, leave them. They will be fine when you return. Especially when they have been well fed before you leave.

If you are seriously against leaving them without food, then bite the bullet and buy an auto feeder. Just remember that with the cheap chinese brands, they are often hit and miss... One will last a lifetime, and one will die in a week...

Personally, I think spend the money, get the best.

I dont think you need to buy a auto-feeder. I often have to leave my fish alone during holiday period and they have never had any problems. I have left my fish for 10days with just one of those feeding blocks and of course the couple of days before i left i overfed them.

Mainly have to leave them for 2 to 4 days at a time and then the smaller blocks are okay. As i said i havent had any problems with my fish dying because of lack of food.

The block must be placed in the path for the current from your pump/filter so it can break down. The fish will find something to eat or nibble on you plants if they like them. My advice is not to worry.

NOTE: I have snails, kribensis, pearl gouramis, guppys, neons, harlequins, a chinese algea eater, panda corys, pepper corys, albino corys.

I know this might not sound humain, but go and buy a real pregnant guppy and put her in your tank and hope that she spawns while you away im sure your fish will like the live food :P

Healthy fish will do fine for a few days without food ... and if one should die he could become the meal for the other for a few more days ;-)

It didn't take us long... we just sometimes don't comment on something that is so radiacally said without any link to evidence it.

I know I did a quick google on what you said Riyadh... decided I wouldn't be the one to correct you. I've been there too bud... so no worries. Sometimes our LPS stores fill our braines with such junk!
