I would also like one or two of these. I called Phish (www.phish.co.za) - LFS wholesalers - yesterday and asked for an SAE, but they only have the Chinese variants. I'm going to see them on the weekend to have a look for myself though. They recently received a shipment of stock from Thailand.

you DO NOT want CAE in your tank - they are bad news.... do a search and see what the folks say

why not get some ottos?

I want to put these in my discus tank. And ottos also have a "sucker" mouth and may cause harm to the discus.

I have checked other sites and they say SAE are discuss friendly...they do however have to adat to the warmer water...

i have never seen ottos harm discus... i had 40 ottos in my cube with discus and leopoldi angels - no issues.....

Ottocinclus Affinis is a good choice and has been available in most LFS recently... It will be fine with the discus

Hi Guys thanks for the advice. I have been reading a number of other forums and as per usual the are conflicting thoughts on keeping the Ottos with discus. But they all seem to agree that the water temp may be a bit high. Also the usaul "if you notice they are bugging your discuss remove them" blah blah...

I will hang on a bit, I am not desparate for them just yet. And depending on the availabilty will make a decision mid/end Feb.

Having said all that I do like the look of the Ottos they seem quite shy and harmless...

Dolphin will you be getting any of these (either species?) with your next shipment?

ps are there any forums that help with Fish Forum addiction?

Yep, I will be... will PM you some details.

Water temp might not be such an issue as Ottocinclus inhabit waters together with discus in their native Amazon rivers. But it would be a good idea to "adjust" them together with the current inhabitants (incl. the eel) to the higher temp range before introducing discus as they will most likely be kept in cooler water before being sold by an LFS.

You might want to consider setting up your tank as a Bio-type system which would make the Otto a better choice than the SAE. Plants would also then need to be selected accordingly. You might also then want to consider more "natural" discus color forms such as the Turquoise, Royals, Heckels, Alenquers, etc instead of the asian color variants. Just my personal opinion here...

Thanks... the tank Temp is already 29'C. All fish are appear pretty relaxed, including the spiney eel. Some plants took some strain, but the Limnophila heterophylla that I currently have are flourishing. I will have to see how the Anubias nana does.

Henk, I've seen you mentioned a couple of times that these foxes are harmful in some way? I have 11 in my 100L and they are brilliant. Only, that you can't plant small plants as they tend to uproot them as they are fast movers.
