I just noticed about 20 tiny swimmers being picked up and moved by the parents:bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile:. Bad news is I figure the other fish in my tank are going to get them:mad::mad::mad:. Good news is i think i can get them in another tank and get them breeding again. Here are some photos, not very clear, they look little white blobs with tails.

Congratulations Derrick!! Awesome man - soon the TASA members will be supplying SA with apistos (well we can hope can't we) :D

Thats where i got mine from, i have had them for about 3 weeks now so they dont mess about. They are cool fish, i have more apistos on order at the moment.

Hope i can get some to survive otherwise i will be moving the parents into their own tank so they can do their business by themselves.
Think if i want to breed them sucessfully i will need to get the necesary food to feed them i.e. BBS or micro worms or fairy shrimp

Thanx. Once i got them in my tank she grew like crazy and became quite fat after about 10 days which worried me as i read somewhere that bloodworms and whiteworms can give apistos digestion problems, anway soon afterwards she turned yellow and then a few days later was no longer fat, i figured she mave have laid eggs but never expected to have them get this far. As i'm typing the male is taking a group on "safari" round the tank.

how about a full tanks pic - would like to see what your setup looks like
Derrick do these apisto's have any tankmates?
Sorry just checked your first post and you mention 'other fish' so the question then changes to what other fish have you got in there with them? :)

They have lots of tank mates, neon tetras, lemon tetras rummy nose tetras, scissor tail rasboras, rams and kribs, the kribs are the most interested in the babies but dad is vicious when it comes to defending babies. The thing i'm worried about is, are they eating, they are pecking at the substrate...
Then yes, they are eating. But they need other sources of food too... Baby BS. But with a crowded tank, they might not get any.
They are beautiful little fish these apistos! I love the dwarfs.
hey derrick, are those apisto agassizzis going into the same tank as the apisto cacu's??? or into their own tank..???
nice to have met you last nite..

greetings mamoo, why not intro yourself in the newbie forum:D
sheez, these apisto threads make me jealous:D i want some too, lol
if i had more funds i'd probably try a whole species tank,
derrik, how are the swimmers doing?
With apistos, species tanks are pretty much a must. If you intend on breeding them that is. Some species can cross breed with other members of the genus.

Ferryman, When you ready for the appistos, contact Dolphin and make a day trip from Pta to his place in Fordsburg... he has some pretty stunning Appistos there... but be warned... you might buy more than what you intend...
I read a hidden warning there.Something tells me NOT to go to Dolphin's place!

you only get to buy what you have space to keep and can care for - and you only need to spend as much as your other half wont find out about...:D

He is still looking after them, will post it when he stops. I been trying to find out when on the net as well as what their growth rates should be but i cant find info anywhere.
