View Full Version : Rebuild of my 315L Malawi tank
I've had my malawis for 3 years. I love them but recently my bio filter just can't handle the load & the tank crashed!!!!!!!!!!!. I had a look at other filters but wasn't happy external cannister, air corner driven filters, internal power filters ect. But I'm getting the guy that build tank to do a conversion to sump filter. It costing me an arm & a leg cause he's doing it on site. I'm redoing the entire tank.
I'm going to use some pool silca(builders) with kalahari crush(nursery), red stones + drift wood & clay pots for caves. Plants will vallis, jarva ferns & abubia. Will be posting pics of the MASSIVE build.
Can't wait to see the upgraded, newly scaped tank!

sound like a fun project, keep us posted
lol Kathie that second pic is on my desk at work, have been saving for 8 months already to do a similar setup when moving to our new home.
I looking for a 3000L to 4000L pump? Looking at waterhouse, lifetech ect.
Tank is almost there. The overflow has a slight leak & is noisy. Derik is coming through tonight to fix leak & add in the durso. Fish are still in tubs with airstone & pumps running. I went with the pool filter sand which looks amazing. But how much gravel do you put in 315L tank. Cause I added in a 40kg bag of pool sand it doesnt look thick enough. The pump is a bit slow I will upgrade soon.
Derik from fish fantasy world designed the entire conversion on site.
Awesome, looking forward to the photos!
How closely does it actually resemble those tanks in the photos you posted?
Not close at all. But will be running this weekend.
Hehe, I imagine so :)
What I meant was in terms of design, are you going to have 4 viewing surfaces with minimal piping and obstructions with the tank free-standing in the middle of a room?
No just front and sides. I don't have the space. I will post pics on monday. The bio filter at the back had to be bust with a hammer. The overflow is the height of the tank at the back.
