so what will work better to cut sandstone tiles - a tile cutter or an anglegrinder?

Angle grinder dude. Tile cutter won't even dent the tiles. That's like asking if a tile cutter will cut a brick.

Angle grinder, sandstone tiles are very very hard.
Just get a 1mm Tile blade like so:

I bought mine at Builders Express, same as Builders Warehouse, just smaller.
BW should have them, just ask for a masonry blade

hi henk did theo call you last night was having problems with tank (nitrate) levels

Oh henk.... if you have someone to help you, get them to spray water on the blade while you cutting. a 2 litre bottle with a nail hole in the screw cap works best.

The water keeps the blade cool, and the blade therefor stay sharp for 100x longer. As an added bonus, the water also stops the dust from blowing everywhere. Cutting with the grinder can be a messy business.

BW should sell them. The picture is the ideal blade for those tiles, but they can be costly. A cheaper alternative that works just as well is a plain diamond blade (they have notches in them). BW sell them around R90.00 p/blade. We buy them at around R69 for company.

Welcome to Cape builders.
Apart from the Malay tradesmen, builders in the Cape are handymen at best when based on what you get up north.

Cheap Labour, big bucks.

Unfortunately Gauteng has caught onto this as well.
