I woke up this morning to a wonderful surprise. My main tank is leaking. So so so happy!
Now in a frantic frenzy:wacko: trying to find a bucket big enough. So I got it all this morning:stickyman:.
Lol.

do you know where the leak is?
if so, maybe lay plastic flat on the glass, on the inside, while you try managing the fish and drain it

flat on the inside, so the water pressure pushes the plastic towards the hole/leak, and stopps it a little bit

the leak is right by the silicone in the middle of the back glass. i still cant find a bucket so will have to wait till i have can get to the plastic store but at least the leak is small.

From what I have read and hear, it is often best to completely drain the entire tank, scrape ALL the silicon out, clean it well, and redo the entire tank. (This is of course assuming you have somewhere else to keep the fish for a few days.

Often when one part of the silicon goes, the rest goes soon... and sometimes the problematic area coult be on the other side of the tank, and the water could be running UNDER the silicon to where you think the hole is.

Keep us updated.

remember that "fishline flossing" between plates is a very good way to disassemble a tank. -thanks Reafer-
Its fast too

But, hopefully it wont come to that?

Fishline flossing or measuring tape - both work fine !!!

I think you are taking a chance if you thinking of patching it , from what i have seem if one part starts its not long till the rest goes as zoom said , i would say reseal the whole tank, as a rule of thumb that i use to see if the silicon is dry is stick your head into the tank , if you can smell any sillicon its not dry . it normally takes about 5-7 days depending on the tank size

Yea a measureing tape works well aswell you can get cheap ones from builders for R12

Prof Dirk sells a black silicone from Germany - Major good quality and it looks really nice on a big tank - have not tried it on a small tank.

I read some were to smoothen silicone you can use a potatoe that has been cut to the angle you need.

Zoom take a look at http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?t=154

This is the tank with the black silicon used.....it actually looks stunning and in fact HIDES any algae growth on silicon of the tank. It's perfect to use particularly in a show tank.

put some warm water in a cup add sunlight dishwashing liquid so that the water feels soapy then were you have put silicon dip your finger on the solution and run your finger along the silicon. It comes out smooth and clean.

I moved all of the gravel and seen that it has a small leak. went to the glass guys today. not going to play with LFS tanks anymore already second one leaking. going to build my tank just waiting for the quote to come.

Zaf what does prof charge for silicon pm me please?
