Hardcore gamer here as well, moved away from the PC in recent years mostly because it's my day job, and I don't fancy sitting in front of the thing after hours, although that is a lie as well because I sit on the forums all night long.

First "modern" console was a Sega Dreamcast, then Playstation 2, then Xbox 1, then Nintendo Gamecube, then Xbox 360, and then a Nintendo Wii.

Haven't exactly bought a Playstation 3 because there's just enough there for me to justify the cash, but I have regular access to one if I desperately need it.

And like an idiot my three main hobbies are also pretty damn expensive, number two being motorcycles.

Always been into bikes, but only managed to buy my own in 2004 a Suzuki GSX-R600. Blissful ignorance told me that because it looks pretty it must be good, what a mistake and it took me two years to be honest with myself that it wasn't the right bike for me.

So I bought a Buell Lightning XB9SX at the end of 2006, and haven't looked back since.

I am somewhat of a freelance (read work for free :)) journo, so I guess writing should also be listed as my other hobby, although it ties in mostly with my love of games and bikes as that's all I really write about.

Nice thread Ruan :) Always nice to get to know more about eachother.

I am a girly-girl, so my other major interest at this stage is studying beauty therapy and health / nutrition. Still have a long way to go (part-time) but enjoying it.

Otherwise, I love love love reading a good novel, and aspire to one day write something in my spare time. (spare time..?? What's that?)
And when it comes to books, the scarier, the better!!

I’m into my console gaming and AV electronics.

I have a XBox 360 and a Wii. My current craze on the 360 is Guitar Hero. I’ve got the guitar and drum set that goes with it. This is the closest that I’ll ever get to being a musician.

On the Wii, we’ve just bought the new Sports Resort and EA Tennis games...bloody marvellous.

On the AV side, instead of the common and expensive LCD TV route, I decided to go the HD projector route. See the attached picure. That’s a 2.5meter screen that I built with Halo3 showing in HD.

I presume you got the World Tour drum kit? Just a note that those things a horribly made, but easily fixed with a bit of rewiring/resoldering, so if you red pad stops working (the common culprit) don't stress.

What projector are you running there?

Few years ago at RAGE a number of the guys from our website had a braai, and projected Halo3 amongst others, onto an outside wall while having a party.

Funniest thing you'll ever see with 4 okes sitting in lazy chairs, few okes braaing, and a massive wall of Halo in the background.

It's a Panasonic LCD projector. I thing the model# is 200AE...i forget. It's not a full HD projector...still working my way up there, but the 720p picture quality is still great. It doesn't look as awesome as the HD pictures on an LCD TV since the pixels are obviously further apart but it's still very good. And you can't beat the experience. I cannot fathom anymore how people can play the 360 or Wii on a 42"

All you need is a Torx screwdriver, and a bit of solder.

They just soldered them pretty kak, and didn't leave enough "give" in the wiring so it's constantly straining.

It's not a big job at all, and very easy, hopefully yours breaks under warranty and Megarom is up there in Joburg so a quick fix should be in order.

All I can say is moer them as hard as you can, the faster you break them, the faster you give them back :)

I was just going to say 1080p is irrelevant, and then I remembered the thing is massive.

720p works just fine on my 32-inch LCD, and I have no need to upgrade as anything bigger just wouldn't fit in the room.

Hobby that takes up most of my spare time is falconry, between falconry, fishkeeping, working and family there is not much time left. Other stuff I have done, that I would like to put more time in once the damn LOTTO balls falls right is growing bonsai, making and shooting traditional bows, whip plaiting and woodwork.

Ferryman

once the damn LOTTO balls falls right is growing bonsai

start now, get a few small acacia galpini and burkei, some celtis africana and a ficus or two, small as in 4-10liter trees, with good surface roots, and some structure to the existing branches... let them grow in the bags as you water and prune them for a few seasons, you'll be rewarded much more than buying a premade tree, you'll also know how to care for it, what makes it grow successfully etc, rather than suffering newbie-syndrome on an expensive premade that gets overwatered and withers. money goes POOF!

Its not that hard to start, its not that expensive,,, but you will get into it and suffer multi-tree-syndrome, possibly buy a small house with a huge yard,,, set up netting and tables everywhere... etc etc lol.

checkout http://forums.bonsaisite.com/ for some beginner tips

Thanx for info Ferryman, Kribs beautiful tree. I had started up quite a collection while still in PTA, gave them to a friend in JHB. I only have a Kei appel now and will take some Celtis sinensis/africana out of the garden and pot them this month. Unfortunatly thorn trees of any variety except A karoo is very scarce in this area and you only find the "good garden variety" at nurseries, not the nice stunted ones you get up in PTA if you spend some time. But yes, definatly need to get into it.

Oh Yes, one day when I am all big and grown up I would love to set up an orchid greenhouse as well.

stunted ones?
there is no such thing as a bonsai tree and a garden tree, all you need to do is keep pruning back a garden variety tree, and it stunts itself -uit self verdediging :)-

you can get a garden variety and just keep pruning bak when a branch goes awol.

a good acacia measure, let it grow out three times as long as you want it, then cut back to the length you wanted, dont be scared to cut it back onve its too long though, cut back to a third, and it'll be "mature" enough to easily carry new, smaller branches, for quick, easy ramification

AN ORCHID GREENHOUSE WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO HAVE, AND THEN You have yet another hobby that is addictive and costly:D
