Hi Seachem

hope you can help.
I have not taken any photos but I realised that on the 3L(2+1) of matrix
that i am using on my tanks, are some what not all matrix.
There is a few peices that look like lava rock, sludge - like from a furnace
and some matix are floating.. total count could be 50+ and not all are 10mm +-
some of them are like 20mm+ and very light, and after soaking, it still wont sink
I have to use wool/batting to force them down but still will escape from the side from time to time.

I currenly use them on 2x 360L and a 122L betta tank

please help

I suggest you "keep it together" in a filter media bag. What kind of filter do you have your matrix in?
I use it in all my tanks.

Hey BBQ, thanks for the post!

Because Matrix is a naturally mined product, there are often a few pieces that look different from the primary product. These will not cause any harm and will still harbor beneficial bacteria.

The porosity of Matrix is what makes it so effective but also leads to it being very light and sometimes even buoyant. These pieces will eventually become saturated and sink but it might take a day or two. Holding them in place with the batting will help as the pressure of water forces any air out of the media. Even those that slip around the batting will eventually sink so I would not worry about them too much.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions and thank you for using Seachem Matrix, I think you will find that it is an excellent bio-media.

I know its filter/bio media, and thats why its in my sump
but been in my sump and floats around just makes me O.o"??
and no i am not using them in a bag or stocking, each Liter only fills like 3cm-4cm in each sump
i then use something else to fill the remaining 25-30cm of the sump chamber and the rest
is batting and wool

As you can see, I cant really take an option and fill the whole chamber up with seachem matrix
and 1L treats 400L tank and i only have 360L
but didnt want it to look empty
