Melanochromis auratus.....looks like a young male - colours just beginning to "invert" to it's adult colouration..... or you have just your blue light on...lol

Be warned - these little guys get to be true terrors...lol - Almost as bad as Melanochromis chipokee - the only fish I ever contemplated "flushing" in my life.....[I did'nt do it,but the thought crossed my mind on many ocasions....]

jedigenie.... reganis' have a much sharper nose and more brown and tan than the bright yellow and black of auratus....

azurekoi thanks but what would the common name be ?
Ha I am so over blue lights I have a Jebo TRI colour from your old LFS and I am fixing on putting in down lights for a more intimate setting some times(when me and wifey want to chill)

And jedigenie thanx

PS agro fish is not a prob I am very intimidating ? We'll at least that is what the cry babies at work say lol
And playing soothing old school rock on my NAD B&O and bowers wilkins seems to help them and me (just bragging)

Corne - Get used to the scientific names with Malawis mate, there's no way around it(and VERY few Common names for them anyway) - If you translate the Latin.... Melano = black/dark - chromis = colour - auratus = gold/en.... hope that helps
So if the blue light is absent - think it might be a young male - go Google M.auratus male to see what he turns out like - personally think the females are much nicer....

Corne most people just leave out the Melanochromis and call them Auratus. Same thing happens with ALMOST all mbuna species. My M.Auratus is a rich golden yellow colour now.
