View Full Version : Just lost a Bala Shark
I fed my community fish mosquito larvae an hour ago. The Bala was going beserk and I think overfed, as I just heard a splash and found that he is jumping to get away from the discomfort. He then started swimming erratically, then started floating and now he is gone.
So, another lesson learned. Hope my other fish is OK.
I am not going to give food from the garden again. Maybe I introduced something bad to the tank. Last time, I fed earth worms and lost my Goldfish.

Depending on the instar stage, mosquito larvae can have a serious set of pincers on them.... Could be that it fought back and damaged something serious on your Bala..... Weird!!
Wow. Sorry about your loss. I learn something new every day.
He still moves now and again. Any first aid I can do? He ate the stuff about 2 hours ago.
Most probably over ate, give it time
Just leave him. Any movement you give him may cause further stress.

He looks dead, but seems to shift areas. Now he stopped.
Re first aid. The Pleco is doing his best now. Massaging him all over! Wonder where he got the first aid training...
This IS weird! I feed mossie larvae - all sizes - regularly, and never have had any trouble. Could there have been a dragonfly nymph?
:sad2: sorry for your loss, Tom.
Hmm... dat dam pleco is wanting to EAT his tankmate's bod!

No!:blink1:
hehe!
I agree with Tracyp the pleco is eating his buddy.
It is all my fault. Found a swimming pool filled with larvae. I have put way too many into the tank. Was like mud in the net. I thought the fish will stop eating when they had enough, but apparently not! The other fish, and the smaller Bala, seems fine though. This was a 12 cm Bala. Got him as a baby last year.
I have mixed feelings now. Lost a lovely fish, but where wondering where I am going to find a suitable home for him.
