Im trying to breed some Golden Pencilfish in a Java Moss tank. Will the Excel Im dosing for the moss affect the eggs? Is it safe to use?

Hmmnn - the old Excell and safety question...All I can say is that I managed to spawn both Red Tail Squirrel Loaches and Sewellia's (Repeatedly now....they did the dirty again after yesterdays waterchange...lol) in my tank where I dose Excell on a daily basis...

Fry numbers have been very low,but I atribute that to a vicious and ever hungry Sumo loach...not he Excell.

But do you really need to dose Excel for the j.m? I find it grows ballistic without ANYthing in the line of ferts? You could be "rather safe than have a lingering doubt" and just use a liquid fert instead? Just an idea!

I was already dosing Excel in this tank. It was empty and just for growing moss, but when I saw some pencilfish that Ive bred in the past, I just couldnt resist :D

Why dose excel? Just use flourish, or something similar. No reason to use a carbon source if you are not feeding the plants. Rather just dose a fert, not excel.

Ive got about 14 fry growing with the parents so I guess it has no affect on the eggs :)

It should not have any effect on the eggs but I found that for my moss, it does more harm than anything else... I loast almost all my moss in an excell dosed tank, but in the flourish the exact oposite...

P.S, I saw these fish over the weekend was gonna get some till I remembered the wife had the cards,...:weird::weird::weird:

Ah man that's awesome! I want to redo my tank and get rid of some neons (hint hint). How big are the fry?

The fry are 1cm and have sexed out, Im going to be offering them to the LFS soon. The parents (2 males, 2 females) spawned repeatedly in this tank with no heater. Cool water, java moss and a sponge filter. Twice daily baby brine shrimp feeding.

What is Seachem's take on the safety aspect of their Exell?

Perhaps someone can find the link to the old debate and post it here for their comment.
