Welcome to TASA dean
hi everyone,i need some help,i think there is an algea breakout! in my tenk
How old is the tank - how much light do you have - how long is the light on for - do you have plants ???
its 3year old,but a 2 months ago i starded with real plants,so i added 2 more lights
only one java moss and amazon sword, lights is on for 12 hours a day,220 liter tenk, aqua clear 300 filter and good air,2 yeast bottles, just when i starded withe lights, the algea starded.i do water changes every week 20%,before i did only once a month
Only thing that has really changed is the lights - try using 1 light for a week and see if there is any difference - You have found the aquarists dilemma - How to keep all your fish happy and the plants happy at the same time -
If you add more plants, for a 220l quite a lot more actually, the plants use the nutrients the algae needs and tends to starve the algae..
One thing I forgot to ask - Is it brown or green algae ????
If it is brown, as your plants mature and the tank matures it will go away - bit of a pain in the bum to clean off though....

I had a major algae problem when my tank was fairly new - someone advised to keep the lights off for two-three days and that my plants will be OK. So I did and it really worked well.
